Jens Pulver: Any meat left on the bone?

"It's just a tough career man, you know I lose eight of nine fights, it's like 'What am I doing?' I'm trying to figure it out, maybe it's just that time.

"I don't know man, I do it because I love it. I enjoy training and I enjoy going out there and fighting. I feel good ... it's definitely frustrating. You gotta hear the entrance song I came out to: 'A Little Chicken Left On That Bone' by Craig Morgan and that's exactly what it's about.

"Nobody's gonna tell me when to retire. Again, I got caught in a damn guillotine. I'm not getting knocked dead asleep and I feel physically great. I'm having a great time. I'm 34-years-old and I'm slumping, I'm slumping hard right now but I'm still having a great time. I love this life and I love this job."

I like Jens but this is really beyond sad.I realize he's not getting KO'd but he did get shelled by Garcia, dropped by a body shot from Faber, hurt from a left hook by Grispi, and dropped with a straight left from Garijo. So even though he's not getting KO'd he's still getting hurt on the feet, which has led to three of his submission losses. Plus he was KO'd by Joe Lauzon and it's not like Lauzon is known for his power. The final nail in the coffin happened this past Saturday. It's one thing to lose to top guys in a top organization but when you're losing to handpicked opponents with no experience in front of 50 people, it's time to call it quits. He should be the WEC color commentator. I don't know why he's not but at this point I wouldn't mind Dana hiring him out of pity just so he stops fighting.

Everything is the problem, he strikes like Chuck...power hand cocked waiting for one big shot. Difference is Chuck is faster and still enough of a physical presence to keep guys off of him, take them down, and get up when taken down. Jens hasn't had anyone in any danger on the feet since Cole Escovedo and how long ago was that fight?

His striking is actually the problem. That is where he always had the advantage and then he used his wrestling to keep it from going to the ground.Reuniting with Jeremy Horn would be good for his grappling but I think the striking is what he has to polish up. Thailand or Holland or Japan or all three.

Yup, 135 is his shot, and I don't think he has any interest in fighting there. Faber is bulkier than Jens and he's going to 135. Guys like Grispi, Tauresevicius, MTB at WAYYYYY bigger than Jens.

I think he can still be good but he has to be at 135.Everyone from his era have been dropping down because the guys at 155 are huge relative to Pulver now.

I hear ya and I don't think Jens is in danger of becoming punchy or anything. But man it sucks to see someone so universally loved become a can.
