FightMetric now official stats provider for the UFC

FightMetric® is now the official statistics provider of the Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®), supplying the world's first comprehensive mixed martial arts (MMA) statistics and analysis system to the largest MMA organization in the world. The inclusion of official FightMetric data into the evaluation of both fights and fighters will, for the first time ever, provide media members and fans with a chance to track the history and performance of UFC competitors beyond simple wins and losses.

The FightMetric system utilizes a precise and scientific methodology to analyze MMA bouts across 67 statistical categories, encompassing all strikes, takedowns, submissions, and position changes. In addition to raw statistics, FightMetric is at the vanguard of advanced MMA analytics, creating a proprietary algorithm to produce an overall Effectiveness Score and pioneering the use of other metrics to foster greater understanding of how MMA bouts are fought.

"We are very proud to be the official statistics provider of the UFC, who we have worked closely with for several years," said Rami Genauer, FightMetric creator. "As the industry-leader in MMA statistics, FightMetric is poised to provide its unique brand of combat intelligence to the biggest mixed martial arts organization in the world. We are also thrilled to bring enhanced use of our statistics to the new design of their website."

Genauer continued, "UFC fans will now have access to a set of data more powerful than anything previously available in MMA history. Our hope is that access to this data will only increase appreciation for the amazing athletes who compete in the UFC. Sports fans who are accustomed to seeing performance data on their favorite baseball and football players can now engage UFC fighters on a similar level."

FightMetric provides its clients, including the UFC, with live round-by-round data during MMA events. The information is available online at UFC.com and other FightMetric partner sites, with FightMetric statistics powering fighter profile and events pages.

This seems like a good idea on the surface, but other promotions have used compustrike as part of their PBP, and it's surprisingly annoying and often inaccurate. Boxing relies very heavily on these numbers, but you pretty much just have to accept them, who knows how far off they are.Fight metric's main strength was that they could could take the time to study the fight and get the numbers right. With their policy on only using 1 scorer during a fight, and potentially scoring in real time, it will be very hard to provide accurate striking information for faster paced fights. They really should use more than 1 scorer for a fight, the eye always seems to focus on one of the fighters and it is very easy to get a biased result this way. They also need to look at tweaking their metric so that their numbers match up better with the fight, one recent example would be that round 1 for Rampage-Machida was a draw and round 2 was 10-9 Rampage, but fight metric had Rampage win round 1 but then draw round 2.It does not work if you need someone to tally the numbers to tell you who is winning. Fight metric should be used to rate an individuals performance, but not the score of the game.It will be good for stat and record keeping if the UFC was not doing this already.

So when are they going to start implementing this? I didn't notice it last night (unless it was on the commentary, which I couldn't hear).

How will they do this real time? I always assumed that they disected the fights aftewards by watching tape, possibly several times.

They do both, they give their winner and the ten point must system winner.I should have clarified my comment, I meant a recent decision. I've seen a few of their older reports are kinda ehhhhhhhhh when it comes to the decision.

Base on what? The application of that particular persons criteria for judging a fight, fightmetrics criteria or the UFC's criteria?
