BJ Penn dropped from top 10 P4P list

1. Anderson Silva (27-4)
If great champions need signature moments, Silva may have excelled himself in Oakland on Aug. 7. The brash and bombastic Chael Sonnen bombed on a hapless Silva for 23 minutes. Then a sudden triangle armbar earned "The Spider" the come-from-behind victory. In spite of his win and the rib injury he reportedly carried into the bout, post-fight discussion has focused on the waning dominance and increasing fragility of Silva. The Curitiba native will have a chance to prove his fifth-round submission was no fluke, though. After his recovery, he's expected to rematch Sonnen in the coming months.

2. Georges St-Pierre (20-2)
When St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck met for the first time in August 2007, St. Pierre walked away with a unanimous decision. When they collide in a UFC title rematch three-plus years later at UFC 124, it will be on the heels of the 12th season of “The Ultimate Fighter,” which figures to build the second fight with an easy and obvious face-heel dynamic. It’s a dynamic that is only going to be reinforced by the fact that their Dec. 11 clash will go down at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

3. Jose Aldo (17-1)
Though Alexandre Franca Nogueira was perhaps the first true dominant featherweight during the division's embryonic stages, it is his countryman Aldo who is now situated as the first truly great 145-pounder. Coming off a brutal blowout of divisional posterboy Urijah Faber in April, Aldo will return to action at WEC 51 on Sept. 30 to make his second title defense. Taking on the enormous task of trying to be a dent in the Brazilian dynamo will be veteran Manny Gamburyan, who has been rejuvenated after cutting down to the more appropriate featherweight division.

4. Frankie Edgar (13-1)

5. Jon Fitch (23-3, 1 NC)

6. Mauricio Rua (19-4)

7. Jake Shields (25-4-1)

8. Lyoto Machida (16-1)

9. Rashad Evans (15-1-1)

10. Gilbert Melendez (18-2)

if it's the top 10 pound for pound, penn's easily 1st or 2nd at his weight class. he can't seem to finish edgar, but he certainly isn't the less talented fighter of the two.

Rashad wasn't considered A list by anyone at the time of the Bisping matchup. His toughest fight at that point was Tito Ortiz which he went to a draw with. He improved leaps and bounds since his fight with Bisping, that was the B list Rashad Bisping fought (and lost to). Wand was on a massive losing streak going into the bing fight, losing 5 of 6. Had he won 5 of 6, no way the protected Bing would have been assigned Wand. But wouldn't ya know, he lost there too. Hendo is the only true A-lister bing has fought, and you know the result. At least you now admit Hendo's superiority (without realizing it), while admitting Bisping's spot well below it. Judge with your brain, not blind nationalism.

Edgar has a bad style for BJ. Maynard has a bad style for Edgar. I believe if those 3 stayed at the top of the HW division the belt would change hands every title defense. And thus the Top 10 P4P would change each fight too? :P

^^ the only measure of challenge is moving weight classes? what if your weight class is stacked, like WW? and aren't you a bisping nut hugger? how many A-listers has he fought? and haven't you frequently called Hendo an overrated scrub? the guy that held TWO championship belts at TWO different weight classes? i yi yi. I'm glad you guys use the same icon. it instantly helps me put comments in perspective before reading. it's like a handi-cap sign

Yeah, I guess it's pretty difficult (impossible) to justify Penn being on there, given his recent losses to Edgar, but I still do believe that he's a top 10 PFP fighter. The thing with BJ, though, which people don't really recognise, is that even though he has more losses in the big fights than some (e.g. GSP), the challenges he set himself were more difficult than most. In all the big fights BJ's fought, with the exception of the Edgar fights, he was the smaller guy, the guy meant to lose: e.g. GSP I and II, Hughes I and II, Machida, Renzo. The challenges GSP and Anderson and other guys on the PFP list have faced were comparatively easier. Those guys aren't fighting whole weight classes up. They are just beating the best guys in their division.

Isnt the whole idea if size wasnt an issue, who has the best style of fighting? Its why Machida is on the list. Its why GSP is on the listIts why Fitch is on the listIts why Also is on the listBj, while insanely talented, fights stupidly and loses because of it.Fedor, while having an incredibly good record, and lots of wins over former greats hasnt looked good except for in the Sylvia fight in years. Just my thoughts. flame away

anyone that actually knows the sport would still rank Fedor in the top 10. Anyone who argues the point you know you can just ignore on all future points as they either know fuck all or they are shills.
