Virginia: Shine didn't provide payroll bond

by Loretta Hunt | source:

The Virginia Professional Boxing and Wrestling Program’s decision to deny Shine Fights a promoter’s license last Friday was based on the promotion’s inability to provide mandatory documents, including evidence of a surety bond to cover fighters’ purses, said Mary Broz-Vaughan, director of communications for the Dept. of Professional and Occupational Regulation.

A Shine Fights event originally scheduled for this Friday at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Va., was relocated to the First Council Casino in Newkirk, Okla., over the weekend.

The event, which plans to host an eight-man, one-night tournament, will be held on sovereign land outside of the Oklahoma Sate Athletic Commission’s jurisdiction. The First Council Casino does not have its own commission body to regulate combat sports events, said a representative on Tuesday. Details of any requirements Shine will have to complete with the casino to hold the show were not readily available.

In Virginia, Broz-Vaughan said the regulatory body worked diligently with the Florida-based promotion up until last Thursday to approve its licensure, even allotting the promotion an extension past the 30-day deadline organizations have to hand in all necessary documentation.

Shine was either late or unable to provide complete medical records and test results, as well as fighters’ professional records, said Broz-Vaughan.

“We were begging for information from them on Tuesday,” said Broz-Vaughan. “We just can’t put on an event without the required documents.”

The funniest part is that Price is blaming Virgina shitcanning their poor excuse of a show on "certain members of the MMA community" and not admitting they don't know their asses from a hole in the ground and couldn't promote a blanket to eskimos if their lives depended on it. "I was given verbal approval for our Sept. 10 event by the Virginia state commission 32 days prior to the fight date." Price stated in the release. "The commission did not express any problems with our event until certain members of the MMA community accused Shine of having reneged on our responsibilities following the cancellation of our May 15 [fight card], 'Worlds Collide: Ricardo Mayorga-Din Thomas' in Fayetteville, N.C." LOL @ "Well, I never bothered paying any bonds or filling out any paperwork because someone who I am unable to identify claimed we could run the show!  I blame it on the fans who stuck up for all the fighters, managers, physician. venue, etc. we ripped off." Anyone who supports these scumbags (including OMA) is a complete piece of shit.

I just wonder if Devin Price and Jason Chambers will be at the venue when it´s announced the show is not happening or if they´ll leave for OMA to explain to fighters and audience what went on.A piece of advice to OMA: at the end of the day, be careful not to be the one Shine people will blame for their once again failure.

As of right now: * They are having a show in OK. It will be unsanctioned.* Aurelio is claimed to be fighting in the tournament but has not been confirmed by any of his own people.* Shine claims that the money is in escrow, the VA commission claims that Shine did not have a surety bond. So it is hard to tell what the status of the money is.* The fighters will all be given 60 day non-licensure suspensions from the OK commission but not all commissions abide by those suspensions.

Anyone have a quick summary of the state of Shine now? I mean, from an objective, uninterested observer? They switched states? They put paychecks in excrow? Are they having a show?

Well Shine is good for one person, Jamie Levine, if Shine can stay around for a while longer, Jamie will be able to crawl out from under his rock and start running fights again.
