Fernandes paid for DREAM Fight, six months late

Nearly six months after his fight with Joachim Hansen at DREAM.13, Bibiano Fernandes tells Tatame he's finally been paid by the Japanese promotion. Asked his opinion on DREAM's problems with paying fighters Fernandes told Guilherme Cruz:

"Damn, man ... I'm gonna be honest with you: if I ever stop fighting in Japan, I won't fight for another event because I have no interest. My plan is jiu-jitsu, I love jiu-jitsu. Whatever I can do to help jiu-jitsu, I'm gonna do. DREAM is a great event, but they're going through a difficult situation there, I don't know what's happening... I don't know if I would fight in the United States, because at my weight... they don't pay decently."

I definitely disagree with payment situations like this. It is completely unacceptable and probably requires closer inspection by managers who are seeking fight deals with DREAM.DREAM are probably feeling the pinch right now due to lackluster ratings and general JAP MMA down turn, however, 2011, with investments rolling in thanks to partnership with PUJI, things will change. FEG, the parent company, IMO, would not keep flogging a dead horse if they didn't see bright horizons.

By Fuji, I think you mean PUJI, which is the Investment firm that FEG has teamed up with (partnership.) Puji, which does dabble in investing in entertainment, will secure investment from worldwide sources and partnerships to the tune of 1/4 billion in order to realise a unified goal of taking on the UFC etc. The benefits of these investments will more then likely start to be realised next year. That being said, backing like this does not = a ship going down. *Investment in an entity = cashflow...*Nowhere did I state any direct investment by PUJI or FEG. Dream did not secure 250 million dollars. Fuji is an investment company that is trying to get other companies to invest money. They aren't investing the money themselves.Also yes Cruz made jack shit fighting for the Wec but what do you expect? Wec 49 had something like 300,000 viewers. That's an absolutely atrocious number.

I read that it was common for DREAM to take some time to pay fighters. Also, I hardly believe that DREAM/K1/FEG is in any kind of financial trouble especially after securing 1/4 billion cash flow.

Are you willing to buy a WEC pay-per-view in order to raise their pay? Everyone cries that the WEC guys are underpaid, but those same people cry when WEC chose to do a pay-per-view. Make up your minds, otherwise don't whine about salaries if you won't buy their pay-per-views.

Cruz made 22k in his last fight I believe and that was as a headliner. Pretty crappy.

It's clearly in financial trouble. I'd love to see BIBi in the Wec but he'd likely take a paycut. I'd also love to see Wec fighters get paid more but obviously when a show is doing 300-600k on cable it's not going to be able to pay it's stars very much.The obvious solution is to merge the Wec and Ufc but then dozens of fighters would lose their jobs. Honestly it would just be awesome if casual fans would get in to the Wec. We'd get the great free events we get now but the fighters would get paid more. At this point this looks very unlikely though.

What a terrible way to treat a person. How can you expect to support your family if you dont get paid for 6 months? Fighters should blacklist dream and other promotions that take advantage of them in such a way.
