Menjivar returns to big show, signs to fight Pickett at WEC 53

source: mmaweekly.com

Making his WEC debut, albeit one event before the organization merges with the UFC, Ivan Menjivar (21-7) is a veteran that has fought in several promotions over the years including a one-fight stint with the UFC back in 2004.

Menjivar has faced the best of the best in the lighter weight classes, and will now move to 135 pounds to face Pickett in December with hopes of returning to the UFC thereafter.

The bout between Pickett and Menjivar will take place on the WEC 53 fight card, which will be the last ever show for the promotion before merging with the UFC in 2011. Ben Henderson defends his lightweight title against Anthony Pettis in the main event.

BTW: Brad Pickett is SERIOUSLY not the easy way back for you 2nd fight after 4 years off. If Ivan beats him I think we are looking at a scary re-entry to 135lbs...................

As I clean my monitor off from laughing so hard......Ivan is the man. And I am glad to see a real fighter back in the spotlight where he should be.

LOL whatever. Arguing over the internet is stupid and non-productive, as is insulting people over the internet. I'm done with it.

Apparently your knowledge of MMA history is pretty weak and limited to Sherdog's fight finder. Ivan was a pioneer for the lighter guys and considering he is coming into the 135lbs. division you might want to rethink how you view his last two losses that were at 155lbs. with an injury that put him on the shelf and had him rethinking his career at such an early age. Ivan is getting his shot because of the impact he had in the past, the screwy circumstances of his early retirement and the fact that he trains with GSP who kinda has some pull in Zuffa............

Ok how about this. The guy wins one fight in 4 years against a guy that is 9-8 and gets a shot at the WEC? How does that make sense? And his last 2 fights in 2006 were losses.

Usually I don't even respond to silly-ass posts like this but what part of "returnED this year" doesn't indicate to you that I meant his fight in June? I said he returned AND IS NOW debuting in Zuffa's version of the WEC. Pretty clear there buddy.......... Seriously, if you have nothing interesting to say just read the threads and move along.............

Thank you Fabes. I assume you are the one that cleared up this thread and let it return to what it was meant for: celebrating the return of Ivan and also pushing Cole to where he should be!
