Strikeforce opts to not re-sign Joe Riggs

by Brendhan Conlan | source: fiveouncesofpain.com

Strikeforce has chosen not to renew Joe Riggs’ contract after his deal recently expired despite “Diesel” having actually won a pair of consecutive bouts including a victory at Strikeforce Challengers 10 in August and a first round TKO at a King of the Cage event a few weeks ago.

Riggs, who is 34-11 overall with an incredible thirty-one wins coming by way of TKO/submission, is 6-1 in his last seven bouts with the only loss being a unanimous decision to Bellator welterweight Jay Hieron in January at “Strikeforce – Miami”. Among the group he’s found success against are notable names like Baroni, Kendall Grove, and Strikeforce welterweight champ Nick Diaz (which ultimately lead to their infamous hospital brawl in the aftermath of their match-up).

As a fellow Arizonan, I've always been a Joe Riggs supporter. It wasn't that long ago that he soundly beat UG Favorite Phil Baroni. There's probably room at Bellator for Riggs.

I remember boxing with Riggs in 03/04 in Las Vegas and watching him workout, the Lally brothers at that time thought that Riggs was going to be a monster in mma. He has had a good career, but sadly has not loved up to his vast potential.

I hope this is one of those things that Joe gets to look back on as helping him out..... Lets see him get active in Canada/KOTC and some AZ shows build himself up and go back into the UFC in Mid 2011

I would always look forward to Joe Riggs on any card. And I would always pull for him, especially against Herb Dean : )                Wish he woulda KO'd Hughes, and Sanchez : ( Probably primarily a financial decision, maybe necessary. I hope to see him somewhere. He's a good personality for the sport imo, and a good story for any big fat fatty who wants to reach for the stars, without eating them. DIESEL !!!!!!!    Hope you find a good home !!
