'Magic Man' Guillard: I should be next for title shot

by John Morgan | source: mmajunkie.com

“I want my title shot. Keep lining them up and I’ll keep knocking them down. I will go undefeated in 2011.”

"Honestly, I feel I should be next in line. It's been a long time coming."

"When I hit him, I knew I hurt him, I saw the whole side of his face turn red, and I was like, 'Oh, yeah. I got him. I know he's hurt.'

"I didn't want to rush it though. The old me, I would have jumped in there and gotten crazy. He would have taken me down."

"The difference now is that being at Jackson's and training with Coach Greg and guys like Carlos Condit and Donald Cerrone, I have a lot of great guys to work with everyday. I even roll around with Jon Jones. He's freaking huge. I don't panic anymore. That's the biggest thing between the Melvin of today and the Melvin you saw two years ago. I don't panic. I just come out and fight and stay patient."

"I'm just proud to have a great team and a great team of coaches. When they come together, we make magic. That's just what is. Call me the 'Magic Man,' I guess.

"I've been doing this for 15 years. Guys underestimate me. I've put in my time, whether it was good or bad. Even my losses, I've learned from my losses. I was 22-0 before I lost my first fight. It crushed me. I go in there now, and I still feel like I'm 19 years old. I still feel young."

"My whole model today is that I want to do great things when people aren't looking; I don't want people to have to look at me to do something great. I've heard this a long time ago, but I never applied it. One day I just woke up, and I was like, 'You know what? I'm tired of being in trouble. I'm tired of being the statistic fighter they say might not make it because he's wild or this and that.'"

"I know there's guys like Pettis, who's a champion, and they have to unify the belts. He's a great fighter, too, and I'm pretty sure he'll get the next shot at it. But it doesn't matter. Like I told Joe Silva and Dana and them, I don't want to sit around and wait on the belt. I want to keep fighting. That was the way I came up. That's why I have over 100 fights.

"I don't even like waiting three months to fight, to be honest with you. I'd like to fight again on the (Feb. 5) Vegas card that's coming up for the Super Bowl, if you guys have a spot for me – hint, hint, wink, wink.

Lol @ Rick Martel not pulling the race card, bit pulling the race card. It's not obvious if the guy you were talking to is a Melvin hater, but it's it's obvious you are definitely a Melvin nutrider. You're blind and possibly a little retarded if you think he deserves a shot immediately after Pettis, and before anyone else. Beating Dunham doesn't get anyone a title shot, not last night anyways.

"I'm the best lightweight, as long as my opponent doesn't submit me inside round 1."

He should fight Florian next seeing as that's who Dunham was supposed to fight last night.

No Melvin, beat a top 5 guy and then yes

No, his next fight should be for title contention. Beating Dunham (who was coming off a loss, controversial or not) doesn't warrant a title shot yet.

I didn't say he WOULD beat them, I just said if he could pull it off it wouldn't be unreasonable to give him a title shot.

I doubt he'd be able to beat Miller. Ken Florian would mop the mat with Melvin Guillard.

Yes, three years ago. He's won 6 of his alst 7 UFC fights. He's two solid wins away from a title shot, maybe one solid win over a guy like Miller.
