Kennedy uses superior ground skills to submit Manhoef

by Steve Cofield | source: yahoo.com

Melvin Manhoef is a lethal striker, but everyone in the middleweight division knows the Dutchman is helpless on the ground. Tim Kennedy had to eat a few nasty kicks and struggled over the first two-plus minutes to get the fight to the ground, but once he did, it was sayonara for Manhoef. Kennedy scored his 13th career victory via rear-naked choke at the 3:41 mark of the first at Strikeforce: Columbus at Nationwide Arena.

Kennedy (13-3) was thrilled to get the win.

Again, no offense to your brother in law, but Ranger school is something that hundreds of soldiers attend every year. It's not hard to qualify for. If he finishes, that is very respectable.Kennedy not only graduated Ranger school, but Special Forces Assessment and Selection (SFAS), SF Qualification Course (Q Course), SFARTAEC, HALO, SOTIC, and was a member of a team called a CIF that selects yet again from the very best of the Special Forces. While serving there he distinguished himself in combat, earning a bronze star. He did multiple combat tours and then became an instructor due to his vast experience. Yes there are other badasses out there on the level of Tim's training and experience (maybe 2% of the Armed Forces), and we don't hear or read about them, but that's because they haven't gone public by fighting MMA.No need to hate on Tim at all, he served his country on active duty and is now in the National Guard, still serving.

Word! Sometimes promotions make stupid decisions....although, I though maybe he could pull it off against Kennedy with TDD etc, but he couldn't..He just looked like he didn't give a shit anymore once it hit the ground. It was actually rather laughable.

"back of the head" is a fairly narrow strip about 1.5 inches off the spine on both sides of the spine. He was hitting the side, but it did look to me as if Melvin turned as he caught one, but I didnt see him plant any. To actually hit the back of the head, you have to just about aim for it, its a narrow spot really, but refs tend to start saying to watch the back of the head anytime anyone is hitting anything rear of the ears.
