Aoki submits Beerbohm quickly in 1st round

Japanese fight favorite Shinya Aoki started Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley with a bang on Saturday night in San Diego, submitting Lyle "Fancypants" Beerbohm in less than two minutes.

Despite a low, defensive stance early, Aoki was able to take Beerbohm down early, then followed with a rear naked choke. After throwing a body triangle, he cranked Beerbohm's neck until he tapped at 1:33 in the first round.

Schooling this guy on the ground wasnt no surprise but neither really was taking him down esp from the clinch. Aoki is not only one of the best BJJ/ground guys in the game but he also comes from a judo background. His tds are underated. Just cuz he isnt a wrestler and just cuz he failed to get Melendez down on his terms, the only fight i can recall in his entire career that he failed to take the fight to the ground, people think Aoki cant take guys down (I dont think he took Shaolin down, Shaolin got a late td but Aoki dominated the standup). How many times has Aoki had to prove his haters wrong? Ya, Melendez was on fire tonight but Aoki finished Kawajiri faster.
