Rivera: After loss to 'inexcusable' Bisping, this might be my last fight

by mark Daniels | source: bostonherald.com

Jorge Rivera has been fighting for well over a decade. He fought Tim Sylvia in one of the first local promotions in New England, Rhode Island Vale Tudo, fought UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva in England, and is a veteran of 13 fights in the UFC. He’s simply been there, done that.

“I’ve been thinking that this might be the last fight. I’m going to give it all I’ve got,” Rivera said. “The last fight left me kind of flat. Other than being sick of fighting, I’m not sure I want to do that. I’m getting to 40-years-old now. I don’t want to be taking unnecessary blows to the head. I want to come out with a W and maybe take one or two big fights and then I’m done."

“I needed some time off after my last fight (a loss to Michael Bisping, at UFC 127). To lose to someone like that was just f------ awful. And people think I deserved to lose because I was talking smack and I was. It was all for the fight, to sell the fight. People wanted to see that fight. Some wanted to see me get my ass kicked. Some people wanted to see me whoop his ass but I didn’t care. As long as people wanted to see the fight."

“When it comes to the fight time I’m going to be there. I’m going to fight and I’m going to fight clean. I’m not a dirty fighter. Bisping was really inexcusable. And I haven’t really spoken out about it at all. It was pitiful. He went to my corner after he kneed me in the head and talked s---. He purposely kneed me, goes over to my corner and tells them that. Then he says after that it was unintentional. It’s hard for me to respect the guy. It’s hard for me to like him.”

Though he says the way the Bisping fight motivates him when he’s hitting the pads, it’s not where he focuses his energy.

“Yeah it does but I can’t just focus on him because it just draws my energy,” Rivera said. “I’ve got to focus on the spirit of fighting. I’m going to go in there, give it my all and hopefully I’ll get the W and get paid. That’s what I focus on.”

I like Jorge. He's a blue collar fighter who probably got some bad advice about hyping up the Bisping fight being good for his career. He'll be respectful towards Sakara and vice versa. Is Italian speaker Mat Santos still training with Rivera? If so, I don't like those type of psychological techniques. Santos can scream out bad advice in Italian and Sakara might think it's coming from his guys. non bene

After all his Youtube asscapades is Rivera the most annoying man in MMA?

There's no place for this kind of thing in the sport. I don't see color or vowels at the end of names. I just see technique

I have very little doubt in my mind Bigsping would have not finished Rivera if he had not fouled him first. Could he have won a decision? Possibly. Bisping will never put away a tough opponent though. Akiyama Dan Miller Wanderlei Dan Henderson Chris Leben

Fair enough. I'm all for it. It's just when I saw Boston Herald, I was surprised about the errors. Not dogging the author, it was a nice read.

Is that a italian insult about Jorge Rivera ?If so its very disrespectful and I would ask you retract that statement, no need to stoop to those kind of levels.

That article has several grammar and spelling errors. No editor? That being said, love Rivera. He's a fighter's fighter.
