Japan's top featherweight, Hatsu Hioki, signs with UFC

Newly signed Japanese featherweight Hatsu Hioki has been penciled in to make his UFC debut at UFC 137. The promotion announced on Saturday that Hioki would face George Roop at the Las Vegas event on October 29.

Hioki, who boasts a 24-4-2 record, is considered by most to be among the world's top featherweights.

"MMA math does not work." True but Mendes' world class wrestling and submission defense would easily win the fight for him. He could sit on the couch and eat potato chips and not wrestle one day and he would still be able to take Hioki down at will whenever the UFC decided to match them. Hioki will never be able to stop his wrestling skill period. Mendes will always be the superior wrestler to Hioki by a wide margin and that will be enough to comfortably win the fight because he won't get submitted.

Mendes already showed some clear improvement from the Javi to Omi fight. It is true however that he was being outworked for large lengths in the guard position against Javi (going unnoticed by the judges of course) and he was caught in a good armbar attempt by Omigawa in R1. I think he showed good generalship against Omigawa as well.

Mendes looked like crap against Javi. He didn't do anything. Hioki is on a different level. Mendes is being forced on the fans harder than Faber has been. It's silly. A year or two from now, you will laugh at the fact that people put this guy in the top 10, let alone the #1 spot.
