Drew Fickett released by MFC following second consecutive loss

The Maximum Fighting Championship announces today that lightweight Drew Fickett has been released from his contract with the company.

Fickett was handed a first-round TKO defeat at the hands of Brian Cobb at MFC 30, and was then given permission to fight in Japan this past weekend. However, Fickett was dealt a second consecutive first-round knockout loss thereby nullifying his contract.

“Drew had the consent of the MFC to fight in Japan, but he and his management were expressly told that if he lost badly again he would be released, and therefore Drew has been released,” explained MFC Owner/President Mark Pavelich.

“I will not have guys coming and going from the MFC and thinking what they do in other organizations won’t have an effect on where they stand in the Maximum Fighting Championship. I have a lot of respect for Drew especially in the way he turned his life around and I wish him the best of luck in his future.”

All this dirty laundry being aired is ugly (on everyone's part).

Maximum Fighting Championships President and CEO Mark Pavlitch stated that Jesse Juarez is “a thousand percent liar” and that the contract stated fighters needing medical attention needed to stay in Canada. Pavlich, however, refused to provide a copy of the contract. I was able to get ahold of the contract, however, and there was absolutely no language indicating fighters needed to stay in Canada to receive medical attention for injuries incurred.

Cuz Drew was laughing while he was getting beat up? Ya think he might have taken a dive so he could get out of his contract with the MFC?

B_Goetz - Sounds like Pavelich doesn't want to accept that MFC is a third-tier promotion. It just sounds ridiculous to cut someone from a low-level org because he lost to Kawajiri (I think he was fighting on short notice as well).This. Who the fuck does the MFC have that could kick Kawajiri's ass? I don't think there's any Melendezes or Aokis in MFC's 155 divison.

Bellator has a stable roster. So does Dream and they're broke! If you claim to be number 2 behind Zuffa, you better have a stable fighter roster.
