Jon Fitch: If you can't beat my style, then you suck

source: mmacanada.net

"Well, you know...BJ's healthy and I'm not. They wanted to get him active and be active, because he kinda has a lot of buzz on him right now, and they can't schedule me a fight, being injured. I know they won't sign me until I get cleared by the doctor, which is gonna be August 16th. So I'm kinda in no man's land. I tried to save the fight and I tried to wedge myself in there and make sure I didn't get skipped over, because I was injured and I didn't want to get forgotten about. You know, through twitter."

"You know, me and BJ verbally agreed in October when I'll be healthy, but I still don't medical clearance, I don't have doctor clearance, I'm still suspended through the commission. And the UFC, it's never been their policy to sign fights if someone's not eligible to fight through the commission.  I just couldn't sit by and wait and watch my fight leave and go away, because I'm left with nothing. I tried as hard as I could to secure the fight with BJ, but it happens when you're hurt and you're on the shelf."

"I think Martin Kampmann might be a smart fight right now. He's the only guy I can think of right now who's healthy and who doesn't have a fight scheduled, and has a big name and is a very tough opponent."

"(fighting Josh Koscheck) gonna happen. I'd rather murder everyone and spend the rest of my life in jail."

"(Nick Diaz is) the only man that's ever talked s--- about me, and he talked s--- about me when he was protected by not being in our organization. He's not protected by that anymore. I feel that his recent career is very padded. He fought at 160 against some very small guys, and he fought at 170 against guys who couldn't wrestle. I've never had anyone talk s--- about me, and I don't deserve to have s--- talked about me."

"He was just insulting my style. Well, f------ ... if you can't beat my style, then you suck. Sorry. If you can't beat it, you can't beat it."

"Me and Nick Diaz are gonna fight. We'll fight."

"He has no takedown defense, anybody who can even wrestle a little bit can take him down all day long and hold him down. And I don't see you as a complete fighter if you can't f------ stay off your back."

"I'm irritated. I'm pissed off. I wanna hurt some people. I wanna finish a lot of people and I wanna do it in style. I'm tired of being skipped over and I'm tired of being ignored, and it's time for me to make some noise."

"It's the guy on the bottom job to take risks and change the circumstances because he is losing. " Ugh, keep telling yourself that man. Your mindset is that it is the defensive position player's job to initiate offense. The guy in dominant position can ground and pound, advance to even better position, attempt subs and counters, throw knees from side mount,etc... Fitch just lays there and that's why people think guys who fight like him are boring. Fitch does not initiate offense. He's too afraid of being countered so he does nothing. If the guy on top does nothing, he is being risk averse.

If you can't see the difference between a GSP win and a Fitch win then you are a TUFer

Damn, I like Fitch. I really do (no homo). But he's got to realize that this is modern day bread and circuses and that style of his is the visual equivalent of a glass of warm milk and a blanky. Like it or not, the masses want to see BLOOD.

It's the guy on the bottom job to take risks and change the circumstances because he is losing. Fitch is winning the fight and it's not his job to take risks and give his opponent a chance to escape the situation. When Frank Shamrock fought Tito Ortiz (a bigger stronger better wrestler than him) he trained hard for the situations he would be in and he went out and won the fight by making something happen from the bottom. Today too many people want to cry after they have laid there for 3 or 5 rounds doing nothing but defending. Or they want to btich and say guys like Jon Fitch are boring when they can't stop him from winning with straight from the practice room wrestling.

"When you are in a dominant offensive position and do nothing with it, its your own fault."Wrong. It takes two to tango. A guy who sucks is easy to finish once he is put there (Fitch's strong point). A guy who is great on the ground is almost always hard to finish there because they are defensively sound in all positions. The majority of guys Fitch fights are great on the ground and he takes them there in spite of it. It's hard to finish guys at the highest levels, it's even more rare to finish them on the ground. This is a struggle for all top fighters in the UFC. The majority of finishes we see are on the feet.

"Easy to say. Point out where missed finishing opportunities are. It's easy to say "just go for the finish" but there has be an opportunity for it. " You've made this argument before and it doesn't hold water. When you are in a dominant offensive position and do nothing with it, its your own fault. Fitch's takedown skill allows him to get dominant position a lot and he is too risk averse to attempt anything. And it makes him a boring fighter and he has no one to blame but himself.

GSP finished BJ (if you want to call it that) a couple years ago. Edgar gets a pass because I think most fans realize how much heart he has, and that he has tapped his potential with what he has to work with. Maynard gets as much shit as Fitch on here, because they both have pretty laid back and easy to like personalities, but they don't take chances and try to finish fights. I root for guys like BJ, Anderson (when he's not bored), Lauzon etc, because they go for the finish.  I'm not trying to shit on Fitch, because I said before that I think he's a great fighter, but when he tries to put the blame on others for why he's not getting the fights he wants, then he should look at himself and his style. That's all.

Oh my... Alves' first ever MMA fight, TEN YEARS AGO, is now being used as ammo in this arguement.  Speaks volumes on how weak these arguements are lol! Also, Diego, who BJ could not finish despite one of the most severe beatings ever shown in MMA. What an example to use in this context. It's as though you don't even want to win an arguement : ) And If I need any MMA maths, I know you're my guy Mr. Google!
