Meltzer: Palmer WAS fired by the UFC

"Brittney Palmer, the octagon girl who came over in the WEC merger, is gone. This was a weird one. A few weeks back the word got around that Palmer, the one-time girlfriend of Donald Cerrone, was gone. Her photo then disappeared from the web site. White got all the twitter and Internet complaints and assured everyone that it was much to do about nothing and she was still there, which calmed people down because to some, this was bigger than getting rid of Fedor and Overeem both. And after that, her photo was back on the web site.

At the time we were told there would be a story eventually about her going to art school so it would sound amicable but that she wasn’t long for the company. Then she wasn’t at weigh-ins. She twittered that she had a schedule conflict but was on her way to Philadelphia. Then she wasn’t at the show working (although she was in Philadelphia as there were photos of her at one of the post-event parties) and there was a new girl who apparently won some kind of a contest. Then after the show Dana was asked what happened, and he said that she decided to go to art school. In other words, Tyler Reks is nervously waiting by the phone right now awaiting the call that he may be headed to art school."

She did not choose to leave Zuffa. Zuffa cut her. It was stupid because she thought she could do all these things and yet still be a ring card girl and get that Zuffa celebrity / exposure which is what is enabling all these things in her life to happen. Without that exposure, she still would have been working the club scene in Vegas. She didn't 'quit' Zuffa she basically planned a whole lot of things around her relationship with them as a ring card girl. Her artwork and plan to sell her artwork for up thousands of dollers a piece is only possible if she is viewed as a celebrity. Her offer to build her own clothing line is not going to get far if she loses her celebrity status. The offers to hose FuelTV, other modeling opportunities, etc. only work if she can retain her celebrity status. Her 'heart' was totally into being a ring card girl. She just put that whole thing at risk by wanting to go to art school when she was already having 10x more success than 95% of other artists with selling her stencils without ever having taken an art class in her life. It was just fucking dumb she could have pursued this dream another time, right now was the time to make that $$$ and don't think that Britney isn't about that $$$. She totally wanted to keep being a Octagon girl.

That is a very misleading statement that both Brittney and Dana are putting out there to get the fans to shut up. She still has 'good relations' with Zuffa and they will keep her profile on their website and if there is ever any need for her to do any publicity work or anything sometime down the line they will involve her. But as far as being on all the UFC cards as a ring card girl or get any sort of regular exposure from the UFC, those days are over.

I guarantee you that if she got an offer like Arianny did to be a Playboy centerfold she would have taken it. But just to be naked for peanuts, she doesn't really care for that.

To be considered "newsworthy" you don't have to be covering a topic no one else has ever covered. If that were the case the Associated Press wouldn't even exist. You also don't need conjecture. All you have to do is address a topic people are interested in reading about. That's it. Dana should understand about doing things to get people to give you attention. He brought Tank Abbott back, had Sean Gannon fight in the UFC and had Royce Gracie and Ken Shamrock come back just for those reasons. He almost had Pat Smith come back and almost had Joe Rogan vs. Wesley Snipes on a UFC card. He put Kimbo Slice on a UFC PPV despite not having won TUF and not having fought a legit HW (Houston Alexander was a blown up LHW). Dave qualified that the report saying that to some, Britney Palmer being cut was bigger news than Overeem and Fedor being cut. He confirmed that the split from the UFC wasn't her choosing and anyone that follows Britney on twitter knows this to be true. She took the red eye to Philly after hosting her FuelTV show specifically for the purpose of performing the ring card girl duties. And the UFC didn't allow her to ring card and basically wasted her time the girl had been up for about 24 hours working she wasn't going to Philly just to hang out or have fun. Luckily, TaPouT was there to help out and had her hosting an afterparty anyways but trust me, she didn't take the red eye to Philly just to host an afterparty. UFC just told the fans she wasn't fired to get them to shut up. So this is news. Dana doesn't like it because it makes him look like a liar and while he wasn't totally telling all the truth, he wasn't exactly lying either. Britney is chasing her dreams of being an artist, etc. but she absolutely wanted to keep being a UFC ring card girl. No one will give two fucks about her art or her clothing line if she can't get that UFC celebrity associated to her anymore and she knows that.

From a podcast today:She admitted that UFC came to her and said they wanted to go in a different direction than her as a ring girl and they "mutually agreed" it was best for both parties (read: she was "let go"). Said she was going to a private art school in Brentwood...which I think is a studio, not a college. That said, a lot of the interview was about art school. I'm actually impressed by how seriously she seems to be taking it despite how hard she knows it will be to make it her career.Also, bad news for everyone that keeps asking about her doing Playboy, she said that she's not really interested in doing it any time soon.Pretty good interviewer, Scott Yager got her to answer a lot of questions people have been wondering about and its about 20 minutes long.http://www.thecampussocialite.com/a-shot-of-yager-podcast-w-ufc-octagon-girl-brittney-palmer/
