Paul Daley wants back in the UFC

by Damon Martin | source:

Paul ‘Semtex’ Daley lost a unanimous decision to Josh Koscheck at UFC 113 on May 8, 2010.  Immediately after the final bell rang, in a fit of frustration at Kos for using his wrestling to smother Daley's striking, Semtex sucker punched Koscheck.

Then the fight was awarded to Kos.

Then UFC President Dana White fired Daley from the UFC, and vowed he would never be back.

Now Daley is scheduled to take on former UFC fighter Luigi Fioravanti in the main event of Ringside 12 at the Bell Centre in Montreal on Oct 21, and the British slugger is hoping to make amends for the mistakes he made the last time he was there.

“I’m looking forward to returning to Canada and re-writing the wrongs I made last time,” Daley said. “Luigi is a tough guy, but I’m so focused now and ready to perform. I will stop him. My goal now is to return to the UFC. I know I’m the best and I deserve to test myself against the rest who believe the same”

Daley’s manager is also behind him and the changes he needs to make to prove to Dana White and everybody else at the UFC, that he’s ready to come back.

“Paul looked great against Radev at BAMMA 7 and is back on winning ways. Now we have the chance to head back to the Bell Centre in Montreal and put right what he once did wrong,” said Daley’s manager Wad Alameddine. “Paul has always loved the Canadian fans. They love a fight and love a guy that throws down ... Fioravanti poses some interesting problems, but as always we are going into this fight confident and looking for the KO, expect fireworks at Ringside 12.”

The UFCs capacity for bigmouth fighters has been maxed out. Dana already took the risk with diaz. Selfish fighters who aren't willing to play the game don't fit within the UFC business model. The fighters aren't the stars the promotion is... Sadly in the end of the day this is how it should be in order for mma to continue to expand.

I don't think what he did should be an auto lifetime ban in itself. If Michael "piece of shit" Vick can come back why not a guy that merely ATTEMPTED to sucker punch a notorious a-hole?That being said, in this case, keep him out, he proved Dana's instinct correct. His idea of working his way back and proving the naysayers wrong: Bad mouth the boss, miss weight, lose fights. "can i come back now?"

Daley hasnt shut up about dana for a year, instead of take responsibility for his actions.Everyone on here was like hey man you might wanna shut up and be careful because one day you could wanna go back and thats burning your bridges mate. In which he came on here and blasted dana on his screen name . Then people said your gonna need him in your future , in which he blasted him some more, and some more. Then a year later he finally comes to the conclusion that everybody thought he should have a year ago.Dana said when he asked paul if he wanted to be in the ufc he just shrugged his shoulders and it was evident he had to let him go that second.Hes more than burnt that bridge a thousand times. and instead of being polite to zuffa in the media he hasnt been able to shut his mouth about them to the point its like anytime i see a daley interview, i know its gonna be all about trashing dana.Sorry for the shitty grammar its 5 in the AM

You did touch on the heart of the situation there actually. Brit fighters are a bit protected, for good reason. The UFC needs those fighters to headline so they can draw numbers in those markets. Same reason Asian fighters tend to get a pass more than most. How can the UFC go to Japan like everybody wants, if there are no Japanese fighters for those fans to turn out for?The ONLY thing Daley has going for him is that he'd be able to fill out a UK fight card.
