DFW 'almost 100% positive' Hughes is done fighting

Following the second consecutive loss by knockout in the first round, Matt Hughes is in all likelihood done fighting.

Even before the UFC 135 showdown with Josh Koscheck, the 37-year-old Hughes gave hints that retirement was under consideration, revealing that he in the final bout of his contract, and that his wife was asking him to fight no more forever.

Although Hughes declined an invitation to appear at Saturday night's post-event press conference, immediately post loss he told Joe Rogan he would likely ask to be "shelved" by the UFC, while all parties involved considered the options.

UFC President Dana White was more blunt.

"I think he's going to retire," White said of Hughes. "I just don't think Hughes wants to say the word 'retire.'"

"He's going to fly out to Vegas in the next month or so and sit down and talk, but I'm pretty sure he's going to hang it up – without saying 'retire. I'm almost 100 percent positive he's going to retire. I don't think he's going to do anything else."

The 2010 UFC Hall of Fame inductee is arguabaly the most dominant welterweight champion in the UFC's history, and holds the organization record for career victories at 18.

LMAO, are you REALLY this oblivious? You REALLY need this explained to you? Matt said he doesn't want to use the word retired. He didn't "officially" close the door. Reporters asked Dana if he thinks that was his last fight. Dana said yes, he thinks Matt will retire. This may be shocking to you, but Dana actually has some inside info, from talking to Matt beforehand. Which MAY just lead him to his opinion. And maybe, just maybe, the fact that Matt brought in his family, old teammates, Miletich for the 1st time since 07, could be a hint about what his plans are. But somehow, you brilliantly come to the conclusion that "Dana is gung ho to make him retire."Lol. Some people can't help but expose their level of intellect and comprehension. Funny, how those are usually the same ones who are always talking down to others and being condescending.

He's afraid of losing the ability to say "Look, listen, look, in the __ year history of the UFC there's never been a death or a serious injury."That's why they medically released Brian Foster. No forget having him insured. Better that he just go and die somewhere else, right Dana?...

Hughes said 'I'M NOT RETIRING' to the entire MMA world, you dumb fuck. Anything else you say behind that is irrelevant.  PS: Don't bring your dup account & hurt feelings to another thread like a jilted one night stand.

Uhm, where exactly has Dana said anything about making Hughes retire? It has been Hughes bringing it up, and now Dana gave his opinion that he thinks Matt wants to walk away. It seems to be a recurring issue with you, this not having basic reading comprehension ability.

Why is Dana always so gung ho to make fighters retire? It's not like Hughes was on the skids or something.

His job is to put on relevant fights. If a fighter is no longer relevant (see: Matt Hughes), his job is to cut that fighter. Sure, he can't make him retire from fighting altogether, but insofar as the pasture means out of the UFC, it is absolutely Dana's job to put irrelevant fighters out to pasture.

He's been stopped brutally 5 times in the last 5 years, and he's got a full life outside of fighting. His recent 3 win streak was impressive -- nothing more to prove.
