Fighter calls for greater fan support of Bellator

source: The Underground

The UFC has crushed or/or bought a parade of potential competitors, including Affliction, EliteXC, IFL, PRIDE, Strikeforce, WEC, and the WFA. That leaves Bellator as the second leading promotion in the sport.

Some fans are frustrated with the lack of coverage of anything but the UFC, and have called for a greater emphasis on Bellator. Some MMA news sites including MMAJunkie and Sherdog have worked hard to offer an array of news from across the sport. Other sites, and many include the UG News among them, have not made an outsized effort to cover Bellator extensively.

Below, Bellator standout Brian Rogers makes a call for greater fan support of Bellator.

FRAT warning

Would love to see the UG run more Bellator news and stories. But people have to read and care about them and click and respond.

Great fights are going down in Bellator each and every week! The same people who complain about the UFC, its matchmaking, etc. and say it's a monoloply are the same people who still are buying every UFC PPV and not watching Bellator. It's ridiculous , first and foremost I'm an MMA fan. I've spent my own money to go to plenty of UFC's, Adrenaline shows, and Bellator before I was signed.

Support the Sport and its fighters! Yes the UFC has the majority of the upper tier fighters, but there's a good number of us that would ruin a lot of Zuffa fights' days.

Example using myself, I just fought Victor O'Donnell who has wins over current UFC middleweight Rafeal "Sapo" Natal , and my teammate seven-time UFC vet  Forrest Petz both by stoppage. He lost by close decisions to current UFC middleweights &  UG member  Chris Cammozzi and also current UFC middle weight Constantino Philippou who just beat Jorge Rivera .

He has never been finished in his career, and I was able to get it done in under two mins.

There are great deal of Bellator fighters that can compete at the UFC level, especially at 135.

PS watch my fight OCT 15 Vs Alexander Shelmenko in Atlantic city NJ. You will be entertained :)

Bellator gets bad ratings because they have no fighters the casual fans know. Sorry to break it to you but Eddie Alvarez isn't known by the masses. If Bellator wants ratings they will have to start spending money on known talent otherwise it'll go the same way as the IFL.

That is the first piece of news that got zero replies in a year or more. It was relevant as it related that the headline fight by the best figher in the promotion was not cancelled, but postponed for 30 days only. If the best fighter in the UFC, Anderson Silva, was hurt and pulled out of a fight, it he was interviewed and clarified that the fight was only delayed, it would be HUGE news. I am not suggesting that Eddie is at fault; the insinuation that I was is puzzling. I was instead saying that fan interest in Bellator is not sufficient to warrant more Bellator coverage. In fact, fan interest warrants less Bellator coverage. Some people want to see more Women's MMA coverage. For otehrs it is more on the scene in Brazil (birthplace of MMA) or Canada (world leading supporting country) or Japan or or or. Some people want to see more on business, or on regulation. There are twice as many ammy fights as pro fights, and the coverage of ammys is about zero, Some people want to see more on trainijng. There are a ton of different sides of this sport that fans individually want to see more of. For you, you want to see more Bellator. That is cool. What is not cool is you insisting there is some moral element to your particulat desire, and that the lack of coverage is somehow unethical.

Here is the HUGE competition problem bellator has... globaisation.....The ufc is in over 130 countries worldwide and me here in Australia, I can't get bellator by flicking a TV remote! It sounds like a lot of the US can't either let alone the rest of the world! MMA has ALWAYS been about globalization, why do you think the ppv model has held up so well for so long in mma? Its not about one country. Get distribution you will get eyeballs! MTV need to dump it on their main channel and boom globally in a few months you will have some actual competition!
