Voice your opposition to AB-308 - Bill seeks to ban MMA in WI

New legislation seeking to give local town officials in Wisconsin the power to ban all mixed martial arts matches has been introduced by lawmakers in Madison. Assembly Bill 308 puts the future of mixed martial arts in Wisconsin in serious jeopardy, and it's important that Wisconsin's MMA community come together and tell our legislators that opposing athletic competition and banning one of the state's most popular and safest sports should not be a priority.

What is AB-308?

Under AB-308, more than 1,200 towns in Wisconsin would be authorized to enact and enforce an ordinance prohibiting a person from participating in, operating, maintaining, attending or promoting an amateur or professional MMA fighting contest. Think about that…a bill that would make it illegal to go to an MMA match!!

WE NEED YOUR HELP! CONTACT YOUR LEGISLATOR AND TELL THEM AB-308…
...Is a harsh slap in the face to the thousands of men, women and children who participate and compete in mixed martial arts in all 72 counties.
...Would not create jobs and grow our state's economy. In fact, it will probably have a negative economic and job impact on the hundreds of martial arts dojos and MMA training facilities across Wisconsin.
...Denies athletes the right to compete in one of state's most popular and safest sports.
...Is a waste of time and taxpayer money to consider ill-advised laws that would move MMA back underground.

Who is leading the effort to ban MMA?

The effort to give towns the authority to ban MMA is being led by Rep. Patricia Strachota (R), Rep. Mark Honadel (R) and Senator Glenn Grothman (R). If you are a resident in the areas represented by these three legislators, please pick up the phone or send an email asking them why they want to ban one of the most popular and safest sports in Wisconsin instead of focusing on our state's economy and job growth.

They did it because a town in their district previously had a ban in place before we passed the bill a couple years ago to regulate it. These small town dopes don't understand that by regulating it we made it safer, added rules, etc.Long story short, the town still wants it banned there, so they've been giving their reps shit about introducing a bill to let them ban it.I don't fault the reps for listening to their constituents gripes, but I'm still going to make sure their bill gets killed. LOL

All three of these representatives are from the Milwaukee area, not a surprise. I'm ashamed that it's three Republicans doing this, but big city republicans tend to be RINO's.

Pretty much. I notified Zuffa that this proposal would be coming down the pipe weeks ago, so they contracted with a couple lobbyists to kill it. Then I talked with my contacts in Speaker Fitzgerald's office about killing it.
