Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis confirmed for UFC on FOX 2

by Brett Okamoto | source: espn.com

Rashad Evans and Phil Davis will meet in a light heavyweight bout slated for Jan. 28.

The fight, which multiple sources confirmed to ESPN.com, will take place at UFC on FOX 2, the promotion's second show on the network.

It's not the first time the UFC has booked this matchup. The two were scheduled to meet in August at UFC 133 in Philadelphia, but that bout fell through when Davis suffered a knee injury.

On the other hand, Rashad could barely take down, and was taken down by, Bisping...and he's British and a 185er.

First I'll say that I think Lil Nog has been highly overrated since he came to the UFC. Second BJ Penn beat tons of legit dudes before Matt Hughes. Second lets look at their opponents since davis came in the UFC or their past 5 whichever phrasing is better. For Jones I'm looking before the Shogun fight to be fairDavisBrian StannAlexander GustafssonRodney Wallace Tim Boetsh Lil NogJones:Jake O' BrienMatt HamillBrandon VeraThe JanitorRyan BaderJones has way higher quality opponents(and he obliterated his challengers) and the only real respected opponent Phil has fought was Lil Nog whom he looked awful against. Rashad has only lost once and even then to Lyoto Machida. I don't see how you feel Rashad is overrated given the list of people he has beaten and the fashion in which he has done such. I just think its too much too fast for Davis. Say he loses does he go back to fighting out of the top ten? Probably not and he could quickly end up with two losses in a row when he should have developed more.

Some people have this 'bitch mode' in their head that they must complain and it prevents them from seeing a potentially great match-up. Yes we understand you guys hate watching wrestlehump decisions, as we all pretty much do. But honestly take a second to think about the last boring fight you watched, because one guy was probably a fantastic wrestler and the other one was either British or a pure striker/jiu-jitsu guy without a very dynamic bottom game.Give me an example of two elite wrestlers, not to mention two guys who have greatly evolved their all-around game, that put on a truly boring fight. This is a great FOX main event because with the cardio and skill level this will hopefully showcase a fully technical match.

People were yelling the same thing about Jones prior to UFC 128; BJ Penn prior to his first fight against Matt Hughes; Phil Davis has the tools to beat Rashad - perhaps with even more ease than many of you think. Rashad is rightfully the favorite, but honestly, why is this such a mis-match and such a massive step-up in competition from Lil Nog?I feel Rashad is moderately overrated here.

I hate how quickly people get thrown to the sharks in MMA. Granted I don't want to see 40 fights before a title shot like in boxing but somewhere in between.I didn't think Davis was ready when they first made this fight and I still don't. I can think of quite a few people that would be a better matchup and better for his development. But who knows maybe he can actually take this.

The Strikeforce card on CBS with 3 five round fights showed that doing something like that on a network card can turn out very badly. All 3 fights went the distance and it was a disaster. Remember Mo/Mousasi and Mayhem/Shields?

Both of those fights should be 5 rounds. Will either be?
