Ebersole uses TapouT chest hair to squeak by decision over Patrick

source: mmamania.com

UFC 140: "Jones vs. Machida" main card on pay-per-view featured a welterweight showdown pitting native Claude Patrick against longtime veteran Brian Ebersole.

Patrick had the added edge of fighting at home and was hoping to pick up his fourth consecutive victory inside the Octagon, while Ebersole was looking for his third and tenth straight win. So who kept their streak alive?

That would be "Bad Boy" Ebersole, who may have won the battle but he definitely lost the war by putting on a performance that will be forgotten before it's ever allowed to register as a memory.

I disagree. Everyone knows it's BS. The more fighters and fans complain about the incompetent judges and the flawed system, the more likely things are to change. If people act like "well, that's just the way it is so you gotta go along with it" there's zero chance of that senseless aspect being taken out of, or diminished, from the judging. Most major sports have had significant rule changes over the years but they're only likely to change if the athletes and/or the fans are consistently vocal about the faults in the current system. Fighters going along with the flaws and not complaining about it only add to the problem.

I agree. I knew the judges would likely give it to Brian because they give far too much weight (despite the rules) to who is on top longer or who can hug the most. Yet, Patrick did more actual fighting, landed more quality strikes and came closer to ending it with the subs. Brian only seemed interested in hugging and didn't even seem interested in trying to finish Patrick. He didn't really do any damage, made no attempts to sub and never even came close to ending it. Too bad all the judges care about is who was on top. That type of strategy and being content with it isn't what MMA is supposed to be about. It's exactly what's wrong with modern MMA and what will set it back. I've always liked Ebersole before but he lost a fan last night.

Gif of Ebersole tapping or not. You make the call.

Thought Patrick won, but can't really complain much when not much offence was mounted. Thought Patrick took the 1st though with slightly better striking, sub attempt and got right back up with no damage done against him when he didn't finish.Looked like Ebersole tapped in the 3rd round too.

Judges score rounds after they happen, they have at least a minute if necessary. It was definitely a close fight, but Ebersole got the takedowns so he wins. It is bs and hopefully in the future AFTER MMA is mainstream and legal in all states, most current judges will be fired.
