Johny Hendricks made his case for elite status with an exclamation point in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Hendricks won his third consecutive bout by knocking out longtime consensus No. 2 welterweight Jon Fitch only 12 seconds into their bout Friday at UFC 141 in Las Vegas. It's the fifth knockout for Hendricks in nine victories for UFC parent Zuffa, and second in his last three.

A left hand from Hendricks sent Fitch toppling backward heavily to the canvas. Hendricks immediately followed with another left to the face that stunned Fitch.

Actually Hendricks was pretty excited when he got this call. And earlier in the week he said he felt great and felt like he was going to knock Fitch out. Johny is probably one of the nicest guys I've ever known, though. He deserves this, and hopefully a shot at the winner of Diaz/Condit.

So Fitch finally put on an exciting fightI saw this coming, dude is coming off a long layoff due to injury to fight a tough competitor, not shocking by any means
