Paralyzed amateur fighter remains in critical condition

by J. Yayo Hernandez | source:

Last Saturday in Joliet, Ill., 20-year-old amateur fighter Jeff Dunbar was caught in a standing rear naked choke, and attempted to front roll/slam his way out. As a result, he is paralyzed for life. recently reached out to Dunbar’s mother, Kathy Dunbar, to find out if Jeff’s situation had improved. Kathy told us that Jeff is still in critical condition with his right lung not functioning properly and suffering from a constant high fever. He continues to have a tracheal tube to help him with breathing as his diaphragm has collapsed. Further Jeff still has no movement in his legs and is being fed through a tube in his stomach.

Even through all of this Jeff is in good spirits and passed along a photo of himself raising his arms, certainly emblematic of the victory he plans to achieve in this the most important battle he has ever been in… a battle for his life.

At this time a trust fund is being set up on Jeff’s behalf to cover medical and other expenses, and as CageJunkies receives the information it will be made available.

Jeff could use your prayers.

everyone thought so too. But His mom Kathy wanted to get the real situation known. Just happy we were there to tell her story in her own words. im still baffled at their claim to be related to Rashad Evans. if true, it would put this story in the national news eye.

Agreed. I'd miss my legs but you can live a meaningful life still... though the plumbing has indeed to keep working too. Otherwise, screw that.I'm glad he can move his arms. At first I thought he was fully paralyzed.

@sprawl- thats hardcore my friend. from the neck down would be pretty awful. waist down, as long as the plumbing worked, i would push through. pipe goes dead, get my gun.

I do wish him all the best, and my wish is he recovers 100%, well at least recover his LIMBS. Don't want to be a dick here, but I personally would rather be dead than paralyzed from the neck down.

Dana White should give this guy the full pass at the next UFC PPV IMO.
