Brock Lesnar retires from MMA

by Chris Palmquist |  12/31/11 12:22 AM |  41062 Views |  45 Comments

Following his UFC 141 loss to Alistair Overeem, Brock Lesnar officially announced his retirement in the cage. Lesnar had been out of action for over a year with a back and forth battle with diverticulitus, and the ring rust showed as Overeem TKO'd him in less than one round.

Lesnar, who originally was a WWE super-star crossed over to MMA in 2008, and after two bouts in the UFC won the UFC heavyweight championship from Randy Couture. Lesnar defended the title twice before losing to Cain Velasquez.

Immediately following tonight's bout, Lesnar announced his retirement citing a promise made to his family. Time will tell if Lesnar is really retired or not.

didn't he just openly question why people question his desire? derp and while he was at it, he also answered those that claimed he didn't like to get hit He proved his critics right.  Time to shoot some defenseless animals

I think the UFC should keep Brock. Let him fight cans for the next few years.

GTFO, never bought one of your PPV's, never would. Knew you were an actor, not a fighter from day one.

Lesnar faced top level competition and performed better than anybody could have anticipated. Hate all you want but give the guy his due credit

Yeah, if MMA were this big 30 years ago, Wretard-wrestling would probably not exist today. There are a lot of serious athletes over there who would prefer to make money in real competition, but they missed their window.

yeah, i think it's time for him. he doesn't need the money, does have health issues (which looked like they affected him tonight) and still has crossover appeal (in either the WWE or acting)....even before tongiht, i assumed if he lost, he'd retire, since he be at leat #3 at a shot for the title.i think the biggest issue he's had, is he started too late.... if he would've had the chance at MMA vs pro wrestling, i think he would be a much different, and dangerous, fighter..
