JDS opens as 2-1 favorite over Overeem

by Chris Palmquist | source: The Underground

Although he's had over 60 professional MMA or K-1 bouts, Alistair Overeem was mostly unknown to the casual UFC fan before UFC 141. He had fought in Pride, Strikeforce, amongst other promotions, but pundits say until you prove yourself in the octagon, you haven't proven yourself one of the best in the world.

With this win over Brock Lesnar last night at UFC 141, not only did Alistair Overeem prove that he belonged in the UFC, but he also earned a shot at the UFC Heavyweight title currently owned by Junior Dos Santos. The two are expected to square off early in the 2nd quarter of 2012 and oddsmaker's have already labeled Overeem an underdog despite his quick win over Lesnar.

Alistair Overem: +170

Junior Dos Santos: -220

good fight.....I believe JDS's speed will be the difference in the fight.....if he can get in and get out away from Overeem's knees and kicks he will test Overeem's suspect chin

JDS isn't really one dimensional. He has a great ground game, he just likes the stand up game. That's what makes him special IMHO. We haven't seen his full game yet. One day we will.

There have been numerous examples of mma fighters beating k1 guys in stand up.

You're kidding right? Junior has shown spectacular TDD, why would Reem waste his energy trying to get him down? Good thing you're not in Overeem's corner.

Verdum had Overeem knocked silly a couple times, JDS should be able to finish.

but if Overeem can`t finish JDS in 1 or 2 round ? in later rounds those muscles will affect big his cardio . That could be a big advantage for JDS

\You dont think he'll land much? The reem is a counter striker he is gonna land. JDS is gonna eat some knees and hooks guaranteed. Should be a great fight.

Should be a good fight. I have no idea who the better striker is, but Reem has bee TKO'd many times. So if he managed to block a few haymakers, he should be able to last the entire fight.Unfortunately, Reem's cardio is not the best so I expect him to tire going into the 3rd round.
