Nate Diaz sets CompuStrike record

source: mmamania.com

Nate Diaz put on quite possibly the best performance of his career last night at UFC 141, defeating Donald Cerrone via unanimous decision after three rounds thanks to relentless, laser-like striking, accurate enough to set a CompuStrike record for a three round mixed martial arts fight.

Diaz landed an astounding 82 percent of his strikes, connecting on 258 out of 314 punches. After plenty of pre-fight trash talk from both competitors, the fight, unsurprisingly, never hit the ground.

By contrast, Cerrone -- who is one of the better strikers in the UFC lightweight division and who possesses a kickboxing record of 28-0-1 -- only landed 33 percent of his strikes as he landed only 66 out of 200 attempted strikes.

People tend to be flat footed when the fight starts with the being slapped about the octagon

Cerrone's muay thai wasn't on the same level as Nate's boxing... That's all there is to it. If Cerrone had gone Buakaw on Nate's ass, Nate wouldn't be able to find the balance to punch that much because he would always be met with a kick of somekind.

Kickboxers slack on that head movement because they are used to having big ass gloves to protect their head and the ability to use their kicks to keep the distance in their favor. Cerrone had neither.

Crazy...fightmetric had him landing 238 significant strikes. Cerrone is a tough guy to take that standing

Everyone is talking about no head movement from Cerrone, but that's classic Muay Thai, hes not a boxer. If he had moved his head more he would have eaten more hooks and uppercuts instead of dozens of one-twos, and Nate would have gone to the body, but same results. To his credit, Cerrone had some great knees and kicks, but couldnt keep up with Nate's work rate.  Cowboy had zero head movement. I give a ton of credit to Nate, but Donald just stood there all night letting him punch him.
