Miller survives early onslaught, submits Guillard in 1st

Jim Miller withstood some powerful striking from Melvin Guillard in the first couple minutes of their main event fight at Friday night's UFC on FX 1 card and then made Guillard pay, submitting him with a rear-naked choke in the first round.

It was a great showing on the ground for Miller, and a demonstration once again that while Guillard is a quick and powerful striker, he simply doesn't have a good enough ground game to compete at a high level.

"I don't get knocked down often, and he knocked me down. So he hits hard," Miller said of Guillard after the fight,. "I just found a way to the back. That's something I've always been able to do and from there it was just securing a position. I'm pretty confident that I'm the most dangerous lightweight in the world and I'm willing to make you guys believe that in here."

Not a fan of Melvin. Having said that he is 11-6 in the UFC. But his last losses have been hard ones. Chokes by Joe Daddy, Lauzon, and now Miller really make me think that Melvin has to fix something in his game or just cannot see him as anything but a gatekeeper.

Funny. I'm a huge deadmau5 fan and no way that was "right this second".....further more it did not at all sound like any deadmau5 track I have heard. And I have over 100 songs. (all different songs too haha)

I don't see how anybody could deny it... Watch his fights. The guy is physically intimidating and skilled. Wildly athletic.And, I've never really been a fan. Thought he was a punk. I'm happy to see him turning that around though. Watching his commentary, his behavior, he seems like a different guy. He's winning me over.Plenty of people have already said it. His weakness is on the mental side. He has too much confidence in the skills he does have, which leaves him open for fighters to take advantage of the skills he doesn't have. He has got to learn to wrestle. He's still got time too. He could hold that belt if he would just learn to wrestle. He had Miller. If he could wrestle, he had that fight fairly easily. If he was a solid wrestler, he could beat Frankie Edgar 2/3 times.
