Machida wants Hendo, could drop to 185

Eduardo Ferreira: Do you know when you’ll be healed (from elbow surgery?

Lyoto Machida: Well, I believe in 20 days I’ll be 100% and prepared for a tougher training, that involves fighting, on which I can train my whole body.

EF: What are you expecting for the future? Who do you believe can come next?

LM: I’m waiting UFC’s suggestion. I guess in April or May, but in case it doesn’t happen I’ll suggest Dan Henderson, who’s a good guy. I know he’s on the line for the belt, but if this fight against Jon Jones doesn’t happen, I’d like to fight him.

EF: Is it a good way for you to get on the line for the title again, right?

LM: He’s a legend in the sport, a champion in many events, like Rings, Pride, Strikeforce… I’d like to test my technique against his.

EF: Now Rashad’s fighting Phil Davis and Dan Henderson is the next on the line. How do you see your weight class currently?

LM: I guess this event will define many things, where are things going. If Rashad wins, I guess he’s the next contender. If Phil Davis wins, I guess he’s gonna have to fight one more time at least. It’s hard to say, I’m also looking at my position right now and waiting for a bigger definition.

EF: People talked about you dropping to the middleweight class. Do you consider doing it?

LM: Well, I have other goals in my division first. But, who knows, in the future, after I achieve all my goals, I can drop.

EF: Can you make 185lbs easily?

LM: I don’t like dehydrating like people do, I always try to stay on my natural weight and I feel great that way. I train with heavier people and I see a big difference. It’s something I feel good. It’d be my call to drop to the middleweight, it would be a challenge, something new.

As a Machida fan I wouldn't want this to happen. I think Hendo puts him to sleep.People keep saying Machida is a bad matchup for Dan, and I think they are very wrong. Dan has been catching EVERYONE with that right hand lately. One right is all it takes and this fight will be over.I'm not saying Machida has a weak chin, but clearly it is not granite and has been bested. You need a granite chin to fight Hendo. Especially these days with Hendo's health being at 100% and no more back problems.Machida is great at controlling distance but he'd have problems against Hendo due to the danger of the right hand. Hendo has a beast left hand too, let's not forget. As for speed - Shogun was just as fast at Machida. Yet Hendo has no problem at all beasting Shogun with that right over and over again. The speed difference between Machida and Hendo is nowhere near what people think it is.I'd favor Hendo 55-45 in this matchup @ 205.I really, really don't want to see Machida go 1-4. Since he's only gone 1-3 give him an easier matchup, someone closer to the rankings to Machida than Hendo is. Hendo should be ranked well above Machida at this point in time. I'd like to see Machida get a nice warmup fight, something to get his confidence back.Remember that Machida lost against Rampage because he was tentative, imagine how tentative he'd be against Hendo who - unlike Rampage - still regularly brutalizes people.

Machida wins by decision or sub. Machida's td's are underrated and he's very capable of submitting Hendo.

Not trying to be dickish but it's easy to win a round by a hair when nothing much really happens. And it doesn't really mean so much when you do it and then get immediately dominated and left in a crumpled heap. Also, he wasn't arguably robbed against Rampage. He really wasn't any kind of robbed. According to the system in place, he lost. Even if the fight had been judged as a whole, he really didn't do that much in the third. He had one decent flurry, got counter flurried, got the TD into mount and showed the purest LnP ever for like a straight minute.

Yes and Yes.Machida is still one of the top light heavies in the business and is tricky enough to beat the vast majority of guys there. There's absolutely no need for all this 185lb talk at this point in time.

Style wise, I think Henderson would have a LOT of trouble with Machida.

So true... Machida gets more unwanted hate from people than any other fighter I think. My favorite types are the guys that bring up his recent loss record. The guy is still 9 -3 in the UFC (17 -3 total) with his few losses coming from some of the best fighters on the planet. He had an awesome climb through the ranks, beating a who's who list of fighters to get where he is. But none of that matters apparently because he lost to Jon Jones, went 1-1 with Shogun, and lost a crappy decision to Rampage. Not to mention he's been competitive in every one of his fights.Yeah the haters are right, he should just quit now. Maybe if he should purchase a fake plastic UFC belt and bring it with him to press conferences, then he would get more appreciation....and who the fuck cares what Hendo and Lyoto's recent records are? It would be a great fight, why would any fan of MMA not want to see it?

oh and machida is a terrible matchup for dan. machida has better mma wrestling without a doubt. Hes got the striking and the distance awareness to keep dan at range for a UD. I could also see machida submitting him. Dan could land a bomb, but i favor machida 80/20.
