With a rematch with UFC middleweight Anderson Silva hanging in the balance, Chael Sonnen did what he had to do.
And not much more.
Michael Bisping put in a valiant effort in the pair's UFC on FOX 2 co-main event, flashing improved wrestling defense and gritty clinchwork in the 15-minute affair, but Sonnen ultimately took over in crunch time and walked away with the unanimous-decision win at Chicago's United Center.
Sonnen didn't take long to prove he could take the fight to the floor, doing so almost immediately. To his credit, Bisping worked back to his feet and landed a few strikes before being deposited on the floor again. The Brit again got to his feet, but Sonnen remained tight, stifling any potential Bisping offense by keeping the action close.
Bisping briefly tried his own takedown, but he instead was warned for grabbing the shorts. Still, while Sonnen looked to have edged the round, he also looked to be a bit tired and out of sorts, and Bisping deserved much credit for keeping the action tight.
chubb - this forum doesn't understand self-deprication. as the home of basement dwelling nerds and teenagers and other delusional fucktards, you have to scream, be insulting, ridiculous and completely close-minded. make the appropriate adjustments.
I thought that it was very clear that Sonnen won rounds one and three. The only reason that people are saying otherwise is because they are brain washed by Joe Rogans shitty commentary. And on that note, if the UFC really is serious about taking it to the next level they have got to get rid of Joe. He is about as far from professional as you can get when compared to the play by play talent in other soprts.
Lol dude, Sonnen just finished Brian Stann in his fight before this one. If Chael keeps talking this corny ass pro wrestling promo crap, then Id love to see Anderson front kick his face off. Otherwise, Chael is pretty dope.
Myth busted. Sonnen's 'legend in his own mind' act is getting extremely tiresome and there's no way he can spin that fight as anything other than it was; a squeaked out, questionable victory over an opponent that is his virtual equal. He's not in the same league as Silva and he knows it. Sonnen seems incapable of understanding that there are more ways, and certainly more conclusive ways, of earning a victory other than a judge's decision. He can't finish fights and he seems reluctant to try. He's a boring fighter and his 'promos' are only great if you're waiting for The Rock to rush the octagon and smash him with a chair. I can't wait until Silva dismantles him and shuts him up until he comes with his next excuse for why he won't ever win the title.
Anyone else find it weird that Bisping appeared to give Sonnen a challenge on the feet, even in his own words having him in trouble. Yet when Sonnen fought Silva (whom appears to be a better striker than Bisping) he was capable of backing Anderson up.It either gives credit to Silva's injury in the fight as the reason he was man-handled for 4 1/2 rounds or the Sonnen Testosterone abuse excuse....Or Sonnen was just having an off game tonight and Bisping presented differently striking problems than the opponent he was preparing for.Or I'm just a person typing on the internet with inane comments.
AHAHA! One judge didn't even give Bisping a round! Even the most delusional WWE fan can't say that is accurate! It seems if you sell tickets like Chael you are under no obligation to actually win fights! This should have been the main event as it was two legit contenders, and the outcome of five rounds would have been too obvious to fix. I could have accepted a split decision but this is farcical.
