UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit took place Saturday, Feburary 4th, 2012 from the Mandalay Bays Events Center in Las Vegas, NV. The card aired in three parts, first on Facebook, then FX Network, and lastly a five card PPV event.

The main event featured Carlos Condit fighting Nick Diaz for the interim welterweight title fight, as champion Georges St-Pierre is out suffering from a torn ACL.

It was a terrible fight... Most of the time was spent well outside of fighting distance. It was not "good movement" by Condit. He wasn't in and out of the pocket. He was running backwards. He had some decent leg kicks. Nothing else was really significant. He was moving backwards as he was throwing everything. I thought Nick's jab combinations when Condit found himself near the cage were pretty flush. It's strange... A takedown is such a significant scoring item. However, it is under the category of octagon control. However, Nicks total domination of octagon control is just good movement by Condit.I can't believe how many people are giving Condit the 5th round... He nearly got finished! The only reason he even escaped was Nick going for broke as time was running out. He had his back for a minute and a half.

I don't get the 'running' comments on Condit. A big part of the challenge is strategy. This *isn't* a fight to the death. It's a fight that is scored on particluar points. I'm a fan of the idea that fighters don't know who they are fighting till the night. This way the fighters train to be the best, not train to focus on opponents weaknesses. But I am also one of those dudes that is quite happy to watch them smother each other on the ground and do pretty much nothing as I feel that is part of the fight. Not a great fan of the referee telling them to 'stand up' or 'work'. I believe that the frustration given to a fighter by not allowing them to move is part and parcel. But I also understand it doesn't make for great viewing.
