King Mo nearly lost leg in knee surgery complications

source: The Underground

Nashville-based MMA journalist Rob Joyner has reported via twitter that Mohammad "King Mo" Lawal nearly lost his leg due to complications from recent surgery.

“On the King Mo situation, hearing from those close to him he’s in a bad situation. He got injured in the Larkin fight, had to get another ACL. There were complications and he ended up with a very bad staph infection that was life threatening, and nearly required amputation. Mo had to have 5 surgeries in 12 days before staph was gone. Currently he’s taking an iv directly into his heart every day for six weeks.

Making the situation even worse, this was a recurrence of same injury within 18 months, so Zuffa/SF insurance won’t cover the ACL surgery or the subsequent follow-ups for the staph. Mo is/will have to come out of pocket on medical bills that may well reach into six figures.”

I was able to get King Mo on the phone about 30 minutes ago to clear up a few things and I tweeted the following.....

Brian @FrontRowBrian Just got off the phone w/ @KingMoFH. He's in Detroit w/ friends. He wants to make it clear he's feeling well & is NOT in any financial peril

@KingMoFH still has a PICC line to his heart though. PICC =peripherally inserted central catheter. Mo says he'll be back training in 6 wks

@KingMoFH also wants to make it clear he's very happy with Zuffa's medical insurance and his out of pocket expense was minimal.

King Mo did confirm @robnashville's report that he was in danger of having his leg amputated.

Yes. You can carry MRSA for example in your nose for months without being sick in anyway.

No doubt. I was wondering If mo got it from the hospital or if it was already in him before the knee surgery. I have heard but don't know if it's true that you can be a carrier of staph but not have an infection. Then you get an injury and the staph gets in the weakened, injured area and then you end up with full blown staph infection. Do you know if that's true?

Yet, you could have added a line: "Zuffa was not involved." OR"Zuffa insurance was not involved"Yet you did not. Why not? You read this thread, just as I did.
