Semerzier officially released by the UFC

Featherweight Mackens Semerzier has been officially released by the UFC.

The former WEC star confirmed the news late Friday night.

“Yeah, I got cut,” Semerzier wrote in a text message to The MMA Show. “I gotta get hot again and earn my spot again.”

Semerzier was 1-1 (1 NC) in the UFC, and 2-4 (1 NC) under Zuffa overall.

I was as shocked as anyone when he tapped Fabiano, however he accomplished absolutely nothing since then.  It should come as no surprise that he is cut after his most recent loss.

"By that logic, Mark Hunt should have been cut after his loss to Sean F'N McCorkle. After all, he was grandfathered into the UFC pretty much due to his tenure in PRIDE and he was on a 5 fight losing streak before the loss to McCorkle."Mark Hunt also fought for the Pride HW title, this guys name barely rings a bell and I watch MMA pretty religiously.

lol, dude is 1-4-1 in his last 6 fights (all for Zuffa), cutting him is in his best interest.

it's pretty simple, the only reason anyone would support this decision is that they are some newb casual fan that has never watched the semerzier vs swanson fight.

Epwar: This isn't anything that hasn't been said before, but Zuffa is a BUSINESS. They sell entertainment products. The audience wants to be entertained. They will give entertaining fighters tons of leeway, and kick the Jon Fitches out as quickly as they possibly can. Whether this applies to Semerzier is debatable, but the guy is 1-4 (1) in his last 6 fights, so don't think this is some craaaaazy decision to let him go.Connect this with the fact that the UFC sees dwindling (or at least a plateau) of PPV sales, which may or may not be surprising and concerning to Zuffa (they might anticipate it due to sharp rise in event frequency, international expansions and television deals), and they have to take action to keep people entertained. He just has to kick some ass outside of the big leagues for a bit, work on his marketability, and come back!

yeah, why would you want to stay in the big leagues if your game isn't quite there yet.  refine it, get some wins back, come back stronger.  or u could always stay and rack up an epic losing streak that you'll be embarrassed to attach your name to
