Chuck Norris protege and Chun Kuk Do 7th degree black belt Danny Lane recently posted a video of a seminar that Norris arranged for his black belts, in 1988! Norris flew is Rorion Gracie, Relson Gracie, Rickson Gracie, Royce Gracie, Rilion Gracie, Rolker Gracie, Renzo (?) Gracie, Royler Gracie, and Carlos Machado.
In Lane's own words:
Do you know the story of how the Gracies came to the USA and the whole UFC, MMA and Gracie Ju-jitsu got rolling here. Chuck and Bob Wall visted the Gracie family and family in Rio, Brazil and experienced the training first hand and were impressed so much that Chuck wanted his Black Belts in the UFAF to learn the system. In 1988 they flew to Las Vegas and taught us for the first time. That was the beggining. Hope you enjoy this histiric video clip I took of the intro and some of the training, Keep in mind the camera quality back then wasn't as great as now.
Chuck Norris was so bad ass he stole half the Gracie family from their sisters wedding to teach Americans what guard position was. That was unbelievable, thanks for sharing.
chiming in to give Chuck Norris props... Bruce Lee should be given credit for inspiring Chuck Norris to look beyond his own discipline ten years before this video was shot.
It was interesting the way he described bjj in the beginning of the video. He didn't call it grappling or wrestling or submission wrestling or bjj or jiu-jitsu. He called it 'their system of control', differentiating it from his system that was striking focused.Just thought it was a revealing comment that showed the way he interpreted what they were doing.
