Despite being ranked as the fourteenth seed going into the ESPY voting, Edson Barboza's wheel kick knock out of Terry Etim is in the final four. Mixed Martial Arts has long clamored for main stream acceptance and having the sport represented in the top four of the best plays of the year is quite the accomplishment.
The impressive kick came back in January in the third round of what was a back and forth battle between lightweights Terry Etim and Edson Barboza. Barboza, who has some capoiera training, threw a spinning heel hook and Etim put his hands just a little low, resulting in the highlight worthy KO.
The remaining plays up for the nomination all come from college sports: baseball, football, and basketball.
Maybe with the help of MMA fans across the globe, we can vote MMA into it's first ESPY win.
