White: Tim Sylvia not signed to Zuffa

by Chris Palmquist | source: The Underground

Today, Dana White reported exclusively to the Underground that Tim Sylvia would not be joining the Zuffa roster, under either the UFC or the Strikeforce banner.

It was widely reported that the ex-UFC heavyweight champion had signed a four-fight contract with the promotion, and would fight Strikeforce Grand Prix Champion Daniel Cormier in late Septemnber.

However, this appears to not be the case. White said the signing was never announced, and that "long story, but yes, Tim is not with Zuffa."

White received criticism earlier today, as he had told the media that Tim Sylvia was not an option to fight Cormier, before today's news of Sylvia's signing broke online

But, as is usually the case with rumors, in the words of White himself: "Never a FACT unless I say it is."

I recall Sylvia holding up the UFC when originally the PPV was going to have Tito vs Ken 2 as the main event and not sylvia vs Arlovki 3, he said something like "I feel a back injury coming" or something to that effect. Did anyone else remember this story?

UG News appears to have contacted Dana White and nobody else for this report -- as usual. MMAJunkie is still sticking to their story. If I had to guess, Dana is just splitting hairs and Sylvia may have a verbal agreement but not a signed one. So saying he isnt signed to Zuffa would be technically true, but he could still be close to signing. Like I said though, I'm just guessing, since nobody reporting on this story seems to be trying very hard to report it fully Whatever is really happening, LOL at the slavish asskissing by UG News whenever Dana comes calling. If he doesn't say it, it isn't true? Is that really a statement you want to endorse? Keep in mind this guy will literally deny anything if it gets leaked ahead of it's intended reveal date (another distinct possibility here).

he probably didn't understand it, it's poorly written, and the play on words is easy to miss.

what are you disagreeing with? That Cormier wouldn't end up on his stomach(on top of Tim)? That Cormeir might hurt his hands on Tim's face?

Oh please, pretty much EVERY fighter has done this and vice versa on Dana's part....and he often lets those guys back.

I agree with DFW here. Tim hasn't done much in terms of beating credible opponents to earn a return.

I like Tim, Dana does seem to have something against him. That said, Tim Sylvia has NOT done much to get back into the UFC either. He is extremely out of shape (even by Sylvia standards), he is fighting fat guys, guys with mediocre records, the "tough" fights he does have he doesn't look good at all. If Sylvia wants to get back into the UFC, there are plenty of TOUGH fights for him outside the UFC. If he wants to get back into the UFC why doesn't he beat enough TOUGH fighters that Dana can't simply keep ignoring him? Begging his fans to twitter bomb Dana White doesn't seem to be working.
