Paulo Filho stops Ninja Rua at Best of the Best

source: onestopmaspot

The first time Paulo Filho and Murilo 'Ninja' Rua fought in a Brazilian Top Team vs. Chute Boxe showdown, Filho took a unanimous decision. Six years later, on September 6, the two fought again in the main event at Brazil's best of the best.

This time Filho got the KO at 1:20 of the first.

While Ninja indicated he wanted to continue, and in the initial view the stoppage by world-class ref Mario Yamasaki appears potentially to be premature, in the replay Ninja was clearly out. And there is no ten count in MMA.

Ninja is widely rumored to have suffered brain damage in his 2004 bout with Sergei Kharitonov, and to have undergone brain surgery.

Ninja has countless fans, but for some fighters, perhaps most notably Kazushi Sakuraba, what their biggest fans hope for is a long and happy retirement.

good stoppage IMO. Ninja gets tagged badly at 1:19 and his legs just gave up.

That's crazy, usually Yamasaki is the one ref that lets fighters take more of a beating than they should. He's the last one I'd expect to do an early stoppage.

mario is a terrible ref. Jiu jitsu and judo blackbelt but doesnt let people grapple on the ground very long before prematurely standing them up. I also cant shake that eric silva bullshit loss.

Certainly got the job done though. Paulo has decent power; if only he didn't leave his chin so high like that. KO'd Doerkson in reasonably similar fashion.

I think it's called, "punching whilst under the influence of muscle relaxers".

What is that punching technique called?
