Dana White talks GSP vs. Jones, Silva

by John Morgan | source: mmajunkie.com

UFC President Dana White today told HDNet's "Inside MMA" that not only is an Anderson Silva vs. Georges St-Pierre bout looking more and more likely if GSP can defeat Carlos Condit, but that Silva vs. Jon Jones could very well happen, too.

"As you start to get to a point where Anderson is in his career – he's beat everybody, he's broken every record in UFC history – if he wins against Georges St-Pierre, I guarantee you he'll be eyeballing Jon Jones next," White said.

"Anderson and 'GSP' were talking like they didn't want to fight. Now if he beats Condit, meaning Georges St-Pierre, he wins this Carlos Condit fight, he's saying he wants to fight Anderson, and Anderson is saying he wants to fight him. That fight will probably happen first."

"Anderson and Jones are saying, 'Hey, we're buddies,' or 'We don't want to fight' or whatever the deal is. But [Jones] didn't want to fight Rashad either, and that happened."

Dana on the troll big time. GSP is moving further and further away from the AS fight in the near future and AS is not fighting JBJ either.I believe AS will ask for GSP at 170, while Machida goes to 185 which IMO was there original plan before Machida won title a shot at LHW (now removed from that shot). Can GSP make LW? LOL

There is a residual effect in combat sport of the super fight, that benefits the entire sport. That is the way it always has been. In boxing all the superfights got made, and all other cards, fights, and viewership benefited. Vegas got its share, New York did too..hell, even Kalamazoo got some. Why ? The fans knew when the say, Ali-Frazier showdown happened, they trusted and believed in the sport, and bought the magazines, saw all the other shows, watched the challengers like Norton, Shavers, Foreman, Buster Mathis's, Jimmy Young's. Same applied to the other divisions. The fans knew when the time came the fighters would face each other. In the meantime the fans paid money to keep up with their local state, home, and regional fighters. One big happy family, and Boxing was huge. Your Leonard-Hearns superfight brought residuals for years in hundreds or thousands of cards, television, and media such as Boxing mags. Can you imagine if they had the internet ? The fans had faith, and spent money between superfights knowing full well what was coming, and the cream of the crop would rise. Was it going to be their guy ? That was the question, and they knew it would get answerred one way or the other. MMA holds itself back because the top guys like Jones-Silva wont face each other. The fans pick and choose. Sketchy. Nobody knows if the top guys will face off so why bother ?
