Charlie Brenneman cut by the UFC

by Steph Daniels | source:

Charlie took to Twitter this morning, to make his fans aware of the change in his career path. I reached out to him, and got a short interview for our readers. Here's what he had to say:

"Basically, I realized after my last fight that I wasn't in a good situation. A week had passed, and yesterday I got a call from my manager/trainer, Mike Constantino. He just said it as succinctly as possible, which is how I prefer it, 'It's not good, you're cut.'

There's nothing really to say. I kind of made my own bed, and I hope to get another chance. I lost to Kyle Noke, and when someone says, 'You got caught early', I have to counter that by saying that I shouldn't have left him the opening to hit me. That's just the way it goes.

I'm not closing the book on anything. The UFC is where I want to be, and it's where I will be again. I give up a lot to fight. I don't live with my wife. I live in New Jersey so I can devote myself to training, when all my family lives in Pennsylvania. It's not a question of drive and passion. I have plenty of that. When that drive naturally expires, then I'll think about stopping."

These are the risks of stepping up short notice.

Damn wasn't he supposed to be the Jon Jones of 170 pounds? Fuck he has so much hype early in his career

If he was successful fourtimes in his UFC stint, then he was a UFC-level fighter. Best of luck to you, Spaniard.

The guy was not a UFC level fighter. He was a wrestler who had decent takedowns and cardio. How many people has he submitted or even attempted? How many people has he ko'd or even dropped? Zero.

Not a fan of his style but I wish him well for the future. Maybe he can work on his striking and become a more well rounded, exciting fighter?

^Any guy Brenneman's size fighting Anthony Johnson is automatically at a disadvantage. Dumb comment, considering your boy Rashad is a fellow "Lackzillian," as you put it.

When you lose to a Lackzilian (in this case, Anthony Johnson), it hardly enhances your job security.

This.he was just hanging on by a thread really. He had a chance to explode into the "safety zone " when he won that short notice fight he took. (Can't recall who it was against, but it was a competition step up) unfortunately he was just unable to keep that momentum and slipped back down....Best of luck to him
