Demian Maia submits Rick Story in the first round

by Gene Mrosko | source:

The storyline for Maia coming in centered on a renewed focus on his submission game. After all, he hadn't submitted anyone in a bout in almost double digit fights since UFC 95 in Feb. 2009 against, who else, Chael Sonnen.

That's why it was no surprise when he came rushing out in the first round with a takedown and positional dominance on the floor. He transitioned from top to side control to back mount against the cage until he managed to get his arm underneath Story's neck.

And he cranked on it until the tap came.

i dare say its the pressure maia was putting on his neck with that crank, if you look at storys face he looks like he is trying really hard to fight it, this combined with the pressure maia was putting on his neck most likely would have caused storys capillaries to burst, hence the awesome moment when he had a burst of blood outta his nose

Probably what Maia was thinking as he was choking Story.

I love watching Story lose after that bullshit he pulled against Thiago Alves. Glad Maia gave him a brutal neck crank.

Amazing brutal choke with the blood splitting out as the choke got tighter. Brutal looking submission.
