Dan Henderson: Sonnen's title shot degrades sport

source: mmajunkie.com

"I will always [have] love for Chael and don't blame him for saying yes to a big opportunity," Henderson, one of Sonnen's occasional Team Quest training partners, tweeted.

However, after a knee injury cost Henderson a scheduled light-heavyweight shot with Jones this past month at UFC 151, Henderson watched as middleweight Vitor Belfort failed to dethrone Jones at UFC 152. Now, Sonnen, another recent middleweight title challenger, is moving into an immediate title shot. Jones, meanwhile, sits and waits.

"... Giving him that fight [right] now degrades the sport of MMA," Henderson wrote.

I'll watch it just to see Jones get wuped mentally. He'll destroy Cheal in the cage but can he handle the mouth of Sonnen for weeks on end? Look how pissed he got when Rampage mocked him at the presser. I think he lets things get to him on a personal level. He's got a lot to learn.

Hendo would wade in and bust Jones in the mouth, Jones would panic and throw his frantic side kicks to the knee like he did against Vitor and Hendo would laugh and splatter his head onto the crowd. Any weight, any time HENDO BABY! I like how everyone says he has no chance and he just KO'ed FEDOR and beat the mother loving crap out of Shogun. Hendo is a living legend and they shouldn't be wasting his remaining time. You know he will deliver a good fight. EVERY TIME. PERIOD. Machida is getting KTFO. Hendo is a true champion. He has been knocking out the best for a long long time. Just the fact that his little ass would fight Jones or Fedor is savage to me. Nobody does that crap other than Hendo... Well Silva does when he needs to go up to crush some cans.

Telling them like it is. Unfortunately Hendo did get some title shots that where less well deserved (he still had to fight people even if they where supposed ''easy'' fights).   Hendo also did not get the titleshot against Silva (yes strikeforce titles are really not worth anything except if you eat horse lol).   Anyways i still agree with Hendo. I like Sonnen but giving him an actual title shot if frankly preposterous. They should have just giving him a catchweight fight. It does devalue the sport but more importantly it devalues the  Zuffa brand.

This is completely true. Title shots and who the champs fight has always been based purely on business decisions. In every organization. Often times the guy who is most marketable is that way because he earned it through his fights, but fights for 100 percent business reasons are absolutely nothing new for mma at all

Hendo jumped orgs to get a UFC title shot on the heels of this:WIN Wanderlei Silva Pride 33 - Second ComingWIN Vitor Belfort Pride 32 - The Real DealHe then jumped orgs to get a Strikeforce title shot after this:WIN Michael Bisping UFC 100 WIN Rich Franklin UFC 93 WIN Rousimar PalharesHe was supposedly next in line for a title shot due to this: WIN Mauricio Rua UFC 139 WIN Fedor Emelianenko Strikeforce / M-1 Global WIN Rafael Cavalcante StrikeforceWIN Renato SobralIn other words, the argument could be made that he earned those title shots, regardless of the org.
