According to Davis, the UFC released the veteran directly following the fight with assurances that he would be welcomed back after picking up a few victories outside of the organization.
"Although the UFC enhances the style of fighting, those in it are in a traffic jam." Alex Davis told Tatame.com. "They had to cut us now, but they said that when he gets back to the good pace of fighting they can re-sign him. He'll keep fighting, and hope to be back soon to the UFC. People have to understand that being cut from the UFC is not a disaster. Once you've got a name in the UFC, things get easier for a comeback. Every athlete is likely to have that phase. Soon he wins and returns to the Ultimate."
According to Davis, Cane came into the bout directly off of two recent knee surgeries which affected his performance, and he went into the fight against doctors orders.
"[Cain] comes from two knee surgeries," Davis said. "At first, the doctor made a mistake and he had to have another. To compete at that level, with a lot of athletes, it's hard. He made a great fight."
