Video profile of Carley Gracie, 8th degree Black Belt and 11th child of Brazilian jiu-jitsu founder Carlos Gracie. Carley details how he made his way to America from Brazil, fought challenge matches, and built up his school and the family name over the next several decades.
Carley started teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the US in the early 70s and engaged in an extended legal battle with UFC co-founder Rorion Gracie. The court case ended with among other decisions, a jury verdict finding that Rorion lacked a valid federal service mark for the name "Gracie Jiu-Jitsu."
