Report: Urijah Faber vs. Lee Vaughan at UFC 156 in Feb.

by Luca Gomes | source: tatame

Brazilian martial arts magazine Tatame is reporting that Urijah Faber fights Lee Vaughan at UFC 156 on Feb. 3.

As TATAME found in issue # 156 of the event, the buzz Feb. 2 in Las Vegas, the "California Kid" will face a challenge against the Englishman Lee Vaughan.

In his last fight at UFC 149, Faber had a chance to fight for the interim belt, but eventually succumbed to the game Renan Barao and was defeated in by unanimous decision.

Less experienced that former WEC champion, Lee has only fought three times in the UFC. In February, he won the biggest fight of his career, finishing Kid Yamamoto at UFC Japan, plus the Submission of the Night bonus.

In his latest fight, Vaughan Lee was tapped by TJ Dillashaw in the first round at UFC on Fuel TV 4 in July. Dillashaw is training partner of Urijah Faber at Team Alpha Male.

Funny because the Packers have the 2nd easiest schedule in the NFL for the 2012 season.

That isn't 'my logic' at all. My logic is that Shelby is giving Faber what he perceives to be the easiest road back to another title shot, i.e. favouritism. That's where my comparison with giving the Packers the easiest way back to the top begins and ends.Nothing to do with having Urijah fight 15 other guys, hell i said in the exact same post you cherrypicked from that i think he should be against a top 10 guy at least. This fight being made is an insult to everybody involved.

Football has "seasons" with predetermined schedules while combat sports have matchmakers. By your logic Urijah would have to face off against 15 of the top 20 before another title shot. That's what the Packers had to do. They lost last year and now have to take on a majority of the league before they have a shot at the playoffs.

You're acting as if it was the exact same people that don't like this fight are the ones that complained when Faber got the title shot. Not at all true, i had no problem with Faber getting the shot. Convincing stoppage against Bowles and a shallow division at the time meant there weren't many other options. I just think that if you just went the distance in a title fight, your next fight should be against a top 10 guy at least.Wonder if Vaughan will get the Che Mills hypejob.Another one to those saying 'good business sense' - So you're saying that in a sport, favouritism is justified in some cases? "Hey, let's just let the Packers skip the main season and fast-track them straight to the playoffs, it's better for business." It's a sport.

Couldnt agree more, if they give him Mayday or a top even though if you look the top guys are booked, if they do that they are pushing him for ANOTHER title shot and if they give him a guy like Lee they are giving him easy fights to get him wins.I guess with a guy like Faber he just never be allowed to fight again because whoever he gets people will cry about it.

You act as if this is the main event, you do realize this fight will either be first fight on the main card of a STACKED card or headlining the FX prelims. If the UFC booked this as a main event on PPV you'd be right but this this is a filler fight and the card is stacked I dont see the point of your post other than to hate on the UFC.

It's very weird that people will complain no matter what they do with Urijah.... They give him a top contender, they're pushing him towards another title shot. They give him someone outside the top 10/20, they're lobbing him softballs to get him a win. Should he have to beat every fighter in the division to get your respect? He has literally only lost championship fights in the past 5 years. Every other top contender or "softball", he smashed(with the exception of Wineland, who actually gave him a decent fight).

By your logic why does anyone talk about stocks unless they own a share in a company, when I say it makes business sense it's not because I have stock in the UFC but I can understand their reasoning. See either this fight gets made and were here having this discussion about Faber getting an easier fight OR they give Faber a top tier guy and we have another thread crying about favoritism. I am a big Faber fan and would actually like to see him no top again and if there was ever a guy to give an easier fight for once its Urijah, the guy has time and time again taken whatever is put in front of him and taken it with a smile.
