White: Winner of Rua vs. Gustaffson 'definitely' earns title fight

source: mmamania.com

Once again, in the lead-up to a major mixed martial arts (MMA) event on FOX, White raised the stakes for certain fighters on the card at Thursday's UFC on FOX 5: "Henderson vs. Diaz" pre-fight press conference, promising a light heavyweight title shot to the winner of the night's co-main event between Mauricio Rua and Alexander Gustafsson.

"Look at the fights that Shogun has had -- his past two or three fights," White said. "This is definitely, there is no doubt about, he [Mauricio Rua] is the gatekeeper to that title. If Alexander can beat Shogun, he'd get the shot. If Shogun wins, he gets it. Unless some crazy shit that happens, which always does -- he has to take another fight before that because he wants to stay active or something -- but other than that, the winner of this fight will get the next shot."

The situation certainly feels all too familiar.

Machida is gonna win that fight and no one wants to see Machida vs JBJ II.

Zuffa super trollYea why would Machida need a full camp against JBJ? Anyone can see he deserved to lose the shot for not wanting the fight with a couple of weeks notice after the last fight!Sickening, got a knife?

Yes because being taller means you're so much better? Tell me other than jones, who was the last person to finish shogun in recent memory? His fights with machida, Henderson, Vera, now Gustafson have been wars but no one can finish the guy.

But if you're 4" bigger than your opponent and you don't finish him, you didn't "cover the spread" so to speak. Gus has done nothing to date that would rank him higher than the Hendo-Machida winner.

He did say that and Machida won. Then he backed out of the fight so Vitor got JBJ and an ass-whoopin.   Cindy

^ Gus didn't impress me tonight. I dont think he'd offer much for bones, he didn't show any outstanding grappling or striking to hang with him, let alone try and use his lanky frame. He looked good on several combos with his leg kicks though.

I donno, he looked pretty good with trips tonight. I think he would be Jones' biggest challenge. After seeing him tonight, I think so.

If Gus wins, which i hope he doesn't, Jones will beat him like a fucking drum. At least with Dan and Machida, and Machida is likely gonna beat Dan, there is some chance Jones will lose or at least it would be somewhat competitive especially with Lyoto who i am sure will fight a better fight than last time.

Because Alex is on a streak since that fight, and Davis lost pretty recently.

Ive been a Shogun fan forever, but Alex is my countryman... Im not sure who I root for. Its gonna be hard watching either of them lose, but I hope its a great fight atleast.
