Belfort: Silva vs GSP is 'meaningless', Silva can beat Jones standing

source: oglobo

In a recent interview with Brazilian media giant OGlobo, Vitor Belfort discussed GSP vs. Anderson Silva vs. Jon Jones.

“Anderson vs. GSP is meaningless," said Belfort. "It would make sense if Anderson fought Jon Jones. Anderson is a fighter at another level. I'm not underestimating Jones but praising Anderson. He's one of the best that has existed, I always thought it."

“It is very nice to see his success. I know what he has gone through. Anderson is in a very high level and should defend his belt or fight for the light heavyweight title. I think he has a greater possibility to beat Jones. He would win on the feet.”

Waiting on that is like waiting on midnight, it's coming and the fact the clock will show 12:00 is also.No one has agreed to this although JBJ made it clear again (as he did from the start before he was called a "friend" he's cool with the fight)

I think the UFC is waiting on the result of Chael vs Jones to try and push Silva/Jones together. Wouldn't want to heavily push, prod, and promote this fight if Anderson's going to go in the cage and knock out the LHW champ in the second round without breaking a sweat. Chael is a litmus test. He's given Anderson his most competitive fights in years and I honestly think his performance against Jones will be the determining factor in a Jones/Silva superfight.

i agree, it is meaningless for him to drop down a weight to fight? he should br challenging up a weight, not down. that seem to me like you are getting demoted but its also that anderson already had fights at lhw. so it makes more sense to move up and fight jones. plus i'd rather wstch silva vs jones.. way more intriguing match up than gsp trying to go for take down all day cuz u know he wont stand and has a weak chin

This.   Both fights should happen as a fan. If you claim to not want either one it is out of love for one and not wanting them to lose, or hate of the other. Plain and simple. Two epic superfights.

I'd love to see either fight. Anyone who claims they don't want to see either fight is either lying or not an mma fan.

I been saying for a long time Silva beats Jones, but he needs to fight him this year before he gets too old or loses even a little bit of speed. But Anderson right now beats Jones.

There is no need to speak in this tone. Inside MMA forums all polls show JBJ VS AS is the biggest fight. It's not close. Here it was about 65 to 35 percent BTW. Overall you may be correct as the casual fan who does not go to forums may buy GSP but not JBJ (maybe). It could be close to equal too depending on how the fight was marketed. JBJ VS AS IS though (in terms of it's importance in history if both go in unbeaten from now to then)by far the biggest fight in MMA history. Belfort is correct in his thought. Even AS has said: AS: "I think [GSP] would be a great challenge for me. I prefer him over Jon Jones. He's smaller. It'll be a little bit easier. I'll be hit less."Read more at he has also said (he reversed his position saying "combat can happen" after taking crap for all this below yes, but IMO it looks bad for the fight:AS: “Well, there are many possibilities but fighting Jon Jones is one of them" Silva said on Thursday. “There’s no way.” "I never want to fight JBJ"All this after JBJ said from the get go in Gracie Mag years ago he looked forward to the fight only to have AS call him a 'friend'.
