Varner sick, bout versus Guillard cancelled only hours before

by Dave Doyle | source:

Nevada Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer informed the assembled Octagonside media of the fight's cancellation.

"He was sick all day, but he still wanted to fight," Kizer told MMAFighting. "He was throwing up backstage. The doctor checked him out and he determined he couldn't go. It's just one of those things, like an athlete training for the Olympics for four years and then getting sick the week he's supposed to go."

with all the pull outs at 155, it needed this fight more anyway.

Melvin himself has been accused of it in the past. I believe it is what led to his fight with Roger Huerta yearssss ago being overturned

Who knows if anyone accused Melvin or if Melvin is making the entire thing up. I honestly think it's irrelevant to what happened today, especially considering the statement Keith Kizer released which described Varner as constantly vomiting but still wanting to fight. Then after it all, Varner agrees to fight in two weeks. So to me, the argument that he faked an illness tonight is illogical. But I guess I wouldn't be surprised if Melvin was accused of greasing. He does come from a camp that has been accused of it in the past. I just think it's pretty irrelevant.

THP, what do you make of Guillard saying Varner's camp accused him of cheating and using grease? Do you think Guillard is making that up?

I believe Varner. He was fighting a great fight up until that moment.
