Dana White: Criticism of Cain Velasquez Brown Pride tattoo 'moronic'

According to the humble former UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez, his tattoo signifies the sacrifices his parents made in order for him to have the opportunity to pursue a better life. However, Velasquez is tired of having to defend his tattoo around every turn.

“That’s definitely a big question that everybody brings up,” said Velasquez admitted during Wednesday’s UFC 155 pre fight press conference. “It’s just like any other question, you answer it a 100 times.”

UFC president Dana White took a characteristically direct shot at critics of the ink.

“People who have a problem with the ‘Brown Pride’ tattoo are morons,” said White. “Come on. It says ‘Brown Pride.’ Big deal. The guy’s proud to be Mexican. I lived in Boston, every Italian was walking around with something Italian on their body. Every guy who was Irish had some Irish tattoo on him, and the list goes on and on.

“It’s ridiculous. This kind of stuff pisses me off. I hate it.”

"Not a well known secret ...a lot of mexicans think they are white hell"A lot of Mexicans are in fact white. Most Mexicans are actually mixed race, known in Mexico as Mestizos. They are part white (mostly Spainish), and part whatever tribes were in Mexico before the Spainish got there (Mayans, Aztecs, whatever else). The darker Mexicans are more or all descendants of the native tribes, the lighter Mexicans have more European in them, or in some cases are from all European ancestory. I think that Cain Valasquez is a Mestizo. He looks like he's definitely got some white ancestory, but he's got some native blood as well. White Mexicans are not just of Spainish ancestory. There are Mexicans who can trace their ancestory back to some other countries in Europe, like Ireland, Germany, etc... I saw this video one time about Irish Mexicans. They looked totally Irish, but they spoke Spainish and were born in Mexico.

Strykr619 -
gspisimpressed - The thing that makes me wonder if Cain is gang affiliated/WAS is when I google Brown Pride' and pictures of these gang members pop up, these people have their Brown Pride logo inked exactly the same. Should Cain have his tattoo removed? Personally I think yes, it's obvious his past and broadcasting something such like that on National television or a PPV event is just not right. Hope Cain wins though, Brazil has too many champions, give Mexico a champ, its great stock for the UFC(fan base, etc).

Bottom line: Cain was/is affiliated with a gang called Brown pride. The biggest problem we should be talking about is that, Brown Pride' a gang, is being advertised on National television/PPV and yes, the tattoo is actually racist.

Funny that you say "give Mexico a champ" when Cain was born and raised in America.

It should be a none issue. I think the reason he gives that is behind the tattoo should be enough. But i do not think he should ever get tired of explaining it. If you put something that big on your body you are out to make a statement with it. I do think it is a positive statement. But i do not understand why he should get tired of telling the story surrounding the tattoo. It is both a great and a touching story but more importantly an essential story that has to be told if you want to know who Cain is and what he fights for. He should show tremendous patience with people and explain the story behind his tattoo with reprive time after time, wearing a big smile. And Dana should say so as well. Dana should emphasis the reason behind the tattoo hence why he put the term in such a pronounced manner on his body. Now Dana is acting like it is an annoyance and basically feeding the misunderstanding about it. And yes he does open up the whole ''white pride'' comparison if he does not explicitely put the attention on the story the tattoo is trying to tell. Sorry but if you put something on your body that is that big you want to make a statement. If the statement is a positive one (so this does not apply to racist tattoo's) you should stand by it and share it with the world, even the ignorant people of the world who need to hear it time after time.

so he's proud to be mexican or what ever.why did his parents leave a place he is so proud of? i dont understand ,with all that pride they should have stayed and made it a better place to live for all the brown ppl.with that said, i cant think of any color that can be proud of what they have done at a given time in history

Yeah, the thing is though, more people are aware that "White Pride" is a racist slogan than people are aware that there is a violent mexican gang with that namesake.I mean, If anyone from almost any country in the world sees the winged death head and they know it's the insignia of the hells angels. It's not the same thing.
