Daniel Cormier inks new contract, officially with UFC

source: mmajunkie.com

This past weekend Strikeforce heavyweight-grand-prix champion Daniel Cormier signed a new contract that paves his way to the UFC.

Now, Cormier (10-0 MMA, 7-0 SF) just has to beat Dion Staring (28-7 MMA, 0-0 SF) at Strikeforce's final event, which takes place Jan. 12 on his alma mater's home turf.

If Cormier is successful, which is widely expected to be the case, he told MMAjunkie.com Radio (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) that he'd like to fight Frank Mir inside the UFC octagon in April.

Cormier, who said his new deal is a "shorter contract," recently received a text message from a friend alerting him to a respectful callout from Mir on FUEL TV's "UFC Tonight."

Thanks for the correction. Now that Cain is champ, Cormier should take care of business in Strikeforce, smash Mir, and be a fight away from JBJ. A dedicated Cormier will be a lot of fun. A true Olympic caliber wrestler that translates very nicely.

Great post, voted you up.  One correction, Cormier did make weight.   Can't wait to see him in the UFC and if hes going ot bounce around between HW and LHW, he should be in lots of exciting fights.

If I'm Cormier, I destroy Staring's ass. Then kick Mir's ass for the sole sake of beating a name. After that, he can re-evaluate whether he should stay at HW. If Cain is the champ, he can drop to LHW and challenge Jones but I think he knows the HW division is a lot easier and if Cain isn't at the top then there's no one stopping him from getting a title shot.Cormier does not like weight cutting. I remember seeing a video of him before the 2008 Olympics and showing him eating terribly and not giving a shit. He ended up withdrawing from the Olympic tournament because he couldn't make weight and went to the hospital. He would rather stay at HW.If Cain wins, he may be forced to go to LHW which in my opinion poses a larger threat in JBJ than Dos Santos at HW. The HW's are a bunch of cans (besides the top) especially for a wrestler like Cormier.

slap yourself. Cormier is doing amazing things at HW.Jones is going to HW anyways. if anything Cain should step aside for Cormier.

Would rather him at HW right now, JDS vs Reem and then DC.I'd say that would be a hell of 2013 if we get JDS/Cain on Sat then JDS vs Reem in the summer and JDS/Reem vs DC next fall.He can drop to LHW if he loses at HW.

God, I do hope Cain will win. Then we will see Cormier making a run at the LHW title. Finally a potential threat to JBJ belt.

Cormier is so easy to root for. Seems like a real genuine guy who comes to fight every time.
