source: twitter.com

Today, Alistair Overeem is meeting with the NSAC to apply for his license as an MMA athlete. He will be asked to present evidence that he has been clean during his suspension and will find out if he is to be licensed today. John Morgan from MMAJunkie is on the scene:

-Blasting through a few reservation dates and grant requests, and now it's time for Overeem.

-Jovial start to Overeem's hearing, as he's questioned about the weather in Florida, his new home.

-Overeem: "We've done everything we can to correct the errors that were made."

-Kizer said Overeem sent in five tests between June and November that were all clean. Additionally, he was tested by NSAC on 11/16 and 12/21.

-Alistair said he's been training during his time off and is actually bigger than he was before.

-Alistair said he has a new nutritionist and a better medical team to ensure he's always clean.

-Pat Lundvall asking if Alistair has insight on any lessons NSAC can learn from this situation.

-Overeem suggest NSAC needs to address the difficulty of arranging testing internationally.

-Motion is on the table and approved unanimously. Overeem has his license.

Overeem maintained his innocence throughout his NSAC hearings and suggested a prescribed injection was responsible for his heightened ratios. Still, the NSAC declined to issue him a license and refused to hear a new application before Dec. 27. With the issue behind him, Overeem said he's ready to move forward with his career and is looking forward to UFC 156.

"Today I went for my license," Overeem told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) following the hearing. "I'm very happy to inform you guys that I got licensed to fight Feb. 2 in the UFC against 'Bigfoot' Silva.

"For me, it's now back to work, back to entering the gym. I'm already basically in shape, so it's just a couple more weeks of grinding it, and then it's going to be showtime again."

Good news....   I was actually somewhat suprised that the commission asked the question. Regardless of what you think about Overeem he showed on several occasion that he has been completely doping free. He basically complied with all the random test of the commission and he even send a few test samples of his own (which is a good development. I do think athletes should be able to choice the people who test them as long as these places are reputable. I am sure there are pretty strict guidelines regarding test centres. If this is not the case yet they really should do something about that in terms of legislation. And it needs to be done nationally and with imput from all parties involved with reason)..   Hence it showed good insight and intelligence for the commissionar to ask this question. I do feel that people should approach this problems from both sides. Its not only about regulation. There needs to be an honest debate about this and the commission is there just as much for the sport in itself and its athletes as for ruling on indiscretions.   There will probably still be a lot of detractors even after this episode  and while i am not entirely sure that Overeem has not been an steroid user (if you look at the difference from the Pride days it is rather beyond believe..then again that is just personal opinion) i do think he has proven himself time after time and now deserves the benifit of the doubt. It time to set people personal feelings aside regarding this issue, you have to be realistic about things.

Still crying because you can't make an intelligent argument? Give it a try buddy... You'll be the first.Watch Werdum vs JDS, then watch Werdum vs Overoids. Then come back and say something really smart about why his record doesn't matter.

Yes. If Overeem stops a takedown and lands a knee just about anywhere, I imagine a knee to the body though, I believe it would be close to a wrap. Cain will need to be very careful to not fail his shots, especially early. If he does he might not get another chance. I'd imagine even now Overeem has been hard at work on his defensive wrestling and punishing failed takedowns with the Blackzilians.
