Benavidez wins exciting decision over Ian McCall

The two met as the lead off fight at UFC 156 and did not disappoint with their respective performances.

Benavidez set the tone early with pinpoint accuracy and quick punches, but McCall battled back in the 2nd round taking the fight to the ground, while working to take his opponent’s back and control him on the mat.

The third round made the difference with Benavidez regaining the upper hand with faster power shots, keeping ahead of McCall with more effective striking throughout the five minute session.

The judges saw it that way as well giving Benavidez a 29-28 sccorecard across the board, putting the former title contender back on the path to another shot at the belt.

I am of the opinion that a point should have been deducted as well. Four groin shots... after the second warning he should have had a point deducted. If that were a five-rounder, we'd likely have fight of the night right here. This fight was awesome, I just really felt that, with the nutshots- a point should have been deducted... then this fight would have been a draw, as it was IMO. Would love to see them go at it again, five rounds, main event of a UFC on FX/FUEL. Would be great- Ian is always impressive and constantly improving, Bene and this is the type of fight to pull more fans into the sport.

I think it's a mental thing. When I get punched I do the same thing. It's like saying "that's all you got". Messes with opponents head

True. But all of the top for guys (Johnson, McCall, Benavidez, and Dodson) would be top contenders at 135 as well. So it gives the division a sort of a pass imo. They'll bring in more guys but I feel like they'll just be guppies for the big fish to swallow.

I got a feeling Reem is going to get caught. I hope I'm wrong though.

Creepy is like Dodson. They both play too much and when a fight is close that hurts you. Wish both guys would quit laughing and having fun and just spend 15mins focused on kicking ass.

What's the finish rate for the Feather and Bantam divisions? Seems like more go to decisions than then the other divisions. Probably just a "seems like".

Four low blows in one round should cause at least a point deduction.
